I swear I must be.

I have a prejudicial hatred for the Accutrigger, and anything remotely resembling the Accutrigger, regardless of manufacture. Don't get me wrong, I *LOVE* adjustable triggers (my .223 bolt gun wears a Rifle Basix SAV-2, and the ability to tune it down to 4 ounces is awesome, even though I have it set to about 24 ounces) but I hate that stupid ####ing blade in the middle. It justfeels wrong.Maybe it's attributed to a bad experience with an early model on a gun that wasn't even mine, but I really hate having to throw the bolt open to reset the internal "safety" if I took up the slack on the blade and lost my shot (gopher moves, wind kicks up at the wrong time) and I back off the trigger.

Granted, I might be typing out of my ass on this, but my recollection of the Accutrigger is pushing 10 years old. Yes, I've managed to avoid them and their ilk for that long.

Of the 5 bolt guns I've owned over the years, all but one of them have had standard triggers with or without some form of adjustment. The only exception is my Enfield, and it has a 2 stage which I happen to be somewhat fond of. And of course, the one Remington I owned was so fussy to get shooting well that I'm not willing to venture down that road again, unless it's a 788 (borrowed one once and it ran like a hot damn.)

Given that I'm in the market for a budget (sub $500) bolt gun in .308 right now, it means my options are pretty limited, since you can't buy a Savage without one, Ruger has one, Mossberg has one, and Remington sucks. Did I miss any manufacturers? Probably.

Yes, I know the Axis (not Axis II) doesn't have the Accutrigger, but I'm not sure I like the feel of the stock, and I'm too cheap to start modifying a budget rifle that will spend most of its time rattling around in the back seat of my truck.

I sure do miss the days of the Stevens 200. That really was a great rifle, and I won't be parting with my .223 any time ever.

Well, why don't you research if you can swap the accutrigger with an older Savage non accutrigger.
I would love to put an accutrigger on my Savage 111 :) (even if minor modification are required)
win-win here

Why the hell would you WANT an accutrigger, when then Rifle Basix is better? My 110 is getting one once I figure out what the hell I want to do with it (barrel is shot out, still deciding what to do with a long action that was once chambered in .308,) and machine a new firing pin since the old one got bent with age. That being said, I still have the original trigger off my Stevens, and it should mate up with the Axis fairly easy (it's been worked on out of boredom. Still around a 5 pound pull, but crisp and clean.)

Grizz; I agree with you 100%....I also have an enduring hatred for the Accutrigger and any of it's clones.

Were you aware that you can remove that silly little piece out of the center of your Savage Accutrigger and it will then be just like a regular trigger?

And it is easy to do. If you have any questions, just PM me.

Regards, Dave.

But can it be done with the Ruger? I can snag an Axis without one for cheap still. I just don't want to bang up a Boyd's in the bush.
Tikka T3, Weatherby Vanguard S2, CZ 550 would fit your bill.
And they're all out of my price range.
... and expect to pay $80+ for a magazine...
This too.

Buy a used quality rifle with a good trigger an option?
HAH! At the prices these jokers in the EE want? You're serious, right?
Love my Accutriggers. Don't understand how it feels "weird" at all. Out of the box it's the best trigger going. In my collection only my Blaser trigger is better, though the 2 stage CZ is darn close too. Sounds like someone should call whine-one-one and ask for a Whaaaaambulance..... ;)
And it sounds like someone is trying to be a bigger #### than I already am. ;)

I'm not a salvage fan either but with the budget restrictions your sol for a new rifle. Probably fussy about the caliber you want as well. :p Maybe a nice refurbished sks:)

I'm not fond of any Savage bolt action. I dislike their appearance, particularly the absence of a visible striker shroud behind the bolt handle, and don't get me started on the wanna be Glock trigger. On the plus side, being able to strip the bolt with an allen wrench is admittedly a good idea, and it would require a massive assault on the rifle to tear off the bolt handle. On the negative side, having the firing pin pass through a floating pin is not a recipe for reliability, and two springs stacked against one another, where one would suffice, strikes me as pointless. Still, there is no arguing with their popularity, and like em or not, they do shoot.
