American Derringer Handguns ???

I like your style Camp Cook. I'm interested too now.

Shooting 410's should be worth a laugh out of that 6" barrel with the muzzle blast and the interesting groupings.

Sold a customer a .41 mag. The instruction book was interesting. They almost suggest that you don't shoot it, and if you do be really careful. He reported that with magnum loads, it was really unpleasant to shoot. Hand numbing.

They're hard to hold onto (the largest I've fired has been in .44 Mag, but they even make them in 30-30 WINCHESTER ) but fairly well made. I doubt I'd shoot it much if I owned one.

The actual price for the 6" model 6 45/410 is $595.00 US funds and if you want the larger grip that is shown in the picture $75.00 US more and they also have a holster for $70.00 US.

It's alot of money for a 2 shot gun but they should be fun. If I got one I would get it put onto my ATC permit for the bush.:)

Yes, I shot one. 44mag short barrel American Derringer. I have the scare and witnesses to prove it. I was asked, and agreed to fire the thing. I should have known something was up when everyone left the line and watched from the lounge.
You cant get a good hold on the gun due to the little birds head grip. The trigger is about 15lbs. The first round caused the hammer to carve a chunk of from the web between my finger and thumb. After the second shot the hammer was fully inserted into my hand. I stood there bleeding on the gun while the owner and a range officer removed the hammer from my hand.
I know now how it would feel to be hit by lightning. The only reason why I fired the thing the second time was because my wife (to be) was there watching.
The owner had never fired the gun. There was a waiver that the owner of the gun had to sign and sent back to American Derringer. It said that they were not blah, blah, blah responsible for injury to owner if they shot this gun.
I trusted the guy when he said that he shot it. If he reads this he knows who I am. He sold it a week or so later at Williams in Port Perry. I was very dumb that day. I still got the girl in the end. O ya and a scar. I dont recomend ever getting one even in .22lr

Here is a post that a fellow gave on another forum.

Yes, I do. I had the base model, the M-1, I think it was called. It was 45Colt/410 shotshell. As far as quality goes, it was an excellent firearm. I shot it quite a bit. Recoil was just fine; about like a single action Ruger, it just curls into your hand.

The problem I have with American Derringer is the owner, who I have mockingly nicknamed "gramma Derringer". She goes by the handle "Lady Derringer" and you can buy calendars featuring her clad in lingerie posing with their firearms. First of all, a 50 some year old woman in lingerie? Secondly, I do not approve of the exploitation of women being used to sell firearms. I believe it is not only counterproductive, it is just wrong.

Companies that use naked women to sell their products have always bothered me. My policy is quite simple, I refuse to do business with them. I bought this pistol before I was aware of their website or advertising/marketing techniques. I got rid of it.

There is a solution http://www.bondarms.com/ They have a variety of calibers. You buy a gun, then you can order barrels in other calibers http://www.bondarms.com/retail/index.php?action=category& ; ;id=2 45Colt, 10mm, and some other quite interesting calibers. Some models come with oversized grips, or you can order them seperately. Most calibers have a 3" barrel. There is a 3 1/2" barrelled version that chambers 3" 410's or 45Colts. From what I'm seeing on their site they have a new 4 1/4" barrel 45/410 for 2006. http://www.bondarms.com/ifirearms.htm
