I just found this forum and have a question. I have been invited to hunt in the Peelee Island Pheasant hunt. The only problem is I only own EBR ---Evil black rifles with pistol grips. The shotgun I would like to use is a Franchi LAW-12. The LAW-12 is a 22 inch barreled auto loader that has plastic furniture and a pistol gripped stock. The shotgun holds nine rounds but I have a plug to limit it to three rounds.

Is this shotgun legal to bring to Canada and to use in a hunt. It has a fixed stock---not a folder and is as long as a hunting rifle. I have used it to hunt woodcock in Michigan. Its 22 inch barrel is quite good for use in dense brush and I have even used it for skeet. Any ideas? Will the OPP arrest me for having a laser pulse rifle--------it looks like one even though its 15 years old.

Alas, the firearm of the design commonly known as the Franchi SPAS-12 shotgun, and any variant or modified version of it, including the Franchi LAW 12 shotgun is prohibited in Canada. Mentioned by name, no less. I don't think you can bring it in.

No go on the Law I'm afraid. There are also barrel length restrictions on all semi-auto shotguns. Must be longer than 18.5" This doesn't apply to pump action shotguns. i.e., 14" Factory bbl on Remington 870 is perfectly legal and 14" 11-87 is a big No-No! Sorry Pal! Doesn't have to make sense, its Lieberal Gov't Policy!

Welcome aboard CGN by the way! Hope we'll see more of you. You should also check out www.cfc.gc.ca Its the government website dedicated to firearms law. They have FAQ pages for visitors wanting to temporarily import firearms for hunting purposes, etc...

I am very positive about our border watchers to know what a SPAS is.

But I would't risk a hunting trip just for the sake of testing their knowledge.

Thanks for the info -------------no go on the LAW-12.
By the Way the Franchi SPAS-12 and LAW-12 are prohibited from sale in the USA also. However, those who own them are grandfathered in and can keep them. Since the guns are no longer in production , its a null issue. You can still sell and buy used SPAS and LAWS in the USA.
The SPAS and LAW shotguns were banned by presidential executive order by Republican George Bush 1 known as 922 r . The ban did not sunset with the sunsetting of the AWB assault weapons ban. 922r was issued as an executive order and does not sunset. The moral of the story is its not just the Democrats that want your guns but Republicans like the Bushes that are not firends of the second amendement also. Although the Kanadian gun laws are less friendly , most of my fellow Americans think Canadians can't have any guns period. That simply is not the case.

I live in the Detroit area and am only 18 miles from downtown Windsor.I boat and fly in Canada all the time. Hey , you Cannooks got it made with your toilets though. We in the states can only buy 1.6 gallon toilets and thus suffer clogs galore and end up flushing 4 times. Where as you Cannooks can buy an larger 3.5 gallon American made toilet and flush once. Yeah , that makes sense.!!!
