American hunter and BC guide caught poaching in Yukon.

While the monitory figure appears steep it is but a mere pittance.
They will still travel to foreign lands and pursue wild game animals with little impediment.
They have been shamed publicly for now, but eventually they will become anonymous.

The fines are not enough. Unfortunately the law does not extend Canada wide in these instances. They broke every rule in the Yukon, so now he goes the NWT and does the same thing maybe. Should have confiscated the plane and all the fees that guide collected. These affairs make my blood boil.

Try just shifting down to BC or over to any other Canadian Province/Territory .. the hunting ban is only for the Yukon which is BS.

The BCWF and other groups have been pushing for Hunting Bans to be Nation wide not just Provincial/Territorial. Right now people convicted in one Province/Territory can simply go another and start all over again.

Asking simply for the knowledge but why is it you have to wait 6hrs after landing to begin a hunt? does it have to do with scouting via plane and offering the animal a fair chance ?

At least there was a lengthy prohibition from guiding in the Yukon. If an Alberta outfitter is caught poaching, they get a fine, but they can carry right on outfitting, with no suspension at all.
 
You are confusing guides and outfitters. Guides in Alberta can and do have their guiding priveledges revoked as well.
 
200lbs of meat produced from a Sheep, a Caribou, and a Moose... Bet this wasn't the first time either, just the first he was caught. The American likely had no idea he was so far in the wrong, though he should have had a serious inkling. Overall just sad as this gets plastered on all hunters when the nation reads it. On the bright side, hopefully it's a deterent.

Sad fact is, that caribou left to rot actually contributed to nature. All the meat that gets cut and wrapped, goes home to freezer burn for four years before being thrown out when the deep freeze quits one day does nothing but make methane in the dump. This is NOT to say what happened is in any way OK, just that literally tons of meat is wasted legally too. But I digress... Couldn't tell you how many hunters I know with a freezer burnt two hundred pounds sitting in the garage.

Except for charges involving migratory game birds, those are Canada wide, as they fall under Environment Canada regs.
 
Abe Dougan and guides like him should be banned from hunting period.
this ###### is probably just gonna get a job in BC or alberta and keep on breaking the rules.
I for one feel this issue is systemic in the guide business here as I have seen similar waste and "flexing" of the rules by other guides I'm aquainted with. this behavior is the number one reason I turned down a guiding job offer this past winter.
bunch of losers. they have the greatest job in the world and the greatest access to outstanding animals and wilderness experiences and they have to cheapen it by not working within the rules/guidelines.

I never cried racism in that thread but read it how you like.
as for credibility and me posting here thinking I need to achieve it somehow? could care less about that, I'm merely taking part in a conversation and expressing my opinion.
I am personally aquainted with a BC guide who lost his guiding(permanent) and hunting privledges (5 year BC and alberta) , HE is a piece of work as he still believes he shouldn't have been charged for leaving meat behind. I'm not getting into specifics or dropping names. I have been around a while, in the hunting and fishing industry circles specifically so my comments are made from experiencing the conversations amongst industry members that see this behavior as acceptable as long as no one catches them.
I never said all guides behave this way..... I know some real honest and ethical ones as well. heck , I know one ol timer guide who gives every animal it's last meal like back in the old country. these guys are getting hard to find.
the job offer I turned down was with a group of guys (the losers and dirtbags I refer to in the post you took offense to) who's hunting ethics are not the same as mine and I don't want to be associated plain and simple.
my general attitude is, if you can't pack it out, don't kill it.
as far as wasting meat..... 3 nice mulies and a 1/2 a fat young bull moose made it into my freezers last fall..... got 4 roasts and maybe 10 packs of sausage left...... freezer is getting bare :D

It's not a great job, it's a tough one and not reliable for raising a family for most. I'm interested, what species do you have enough experience on to guide, and what area? More meat is wasted by the general public hunter in his freezer than the average guiding operation. I know a few guides myself, this is a small industry we're talking, who are the guys you know bending rules? Good chance I'll know who you're talking about feel free to PM.

I worry you're painting a vital industry for our sport with a broad, misunderstood brush. Without the guide outfitting industry hunting in BC (and elsewhere) wouldn't have a shadow of the recognition and positive attention it gets. The large industry has made it valuable for the province. I'm not calling you out, but talk like this gets on my nerves and wreaks of misunderstanding, I have close ties to the hunting industry and this kind of vague, undirected and unexplained slander gets my back up.
