Going plinking tomorrow and wondering if anyone has a suggestion as to what to use as off the shelf .308 ammo? What seems to preform for you? I'll be going to the Canadian tire gunshop in Dartmouth crossing, any suggestions will be a help, I know what I'm looking for sort of however I'm open to new ideas. Last time I used doubletapp 165gr nosler accruabonds. I'm using a Remington VTR in .308 in a hogue stock which I consider so so (could be worse but also could definitely be better) I've been using norinco up till now in this particular rifle and the preformance varies a lot from batch to batch, I've had batches that gave me 1/2 moa and other moas that I won't even discuss in this forum lol...I'm not set up for reloading right now and won't be till I get moved and settled in October, so for now it's Canadain tire and random gunshops for my ammo source. Shot a bit of that .308 Russian barrnell ammo through my m77 mk1 ruger target rifle a few weeks ago and was getting.75 moa and better... But any suggestions for rifles like the a rem700 VTR or rifle that's in a similar category would be appreciated.

I would rather spend 60$ on 20 quality rounds and take an afternoon to shoot them all down range in a tight group then buy cheap stuff like norinco and have it wander in quality from decent to #### all over the target for the afternoon.

Well, that's the correct attitude for this kind of shooting :D

Just wanted to make it clear that buying factory match ammo adds up quick. A single stage loader and set of dies pays for itself pretty quick in saved costs.

I'll be picking a loader and dies up for sure once I move just don't want to haul the extra gear all the way across the country with me to Alberta is all. Just buy it once I get there.

Well well... I found out what the VTR and my ruger m77mk1 .308 varmint like to eat... Sellier&Bellot 168gr match ammo.... Bloody amazing I'll never let junk ammo get shot through my precision rifles ever again. Time to buy a loader.

Best 2$ a shot I've ever spent, 100% consistent 1/2moa with the ruger and three 1/2moa groups with the VTR and one .75 moa with the VTR, I set it aside after that group, took a little scope kiss to the nose that opened it up to .75 and desided to sit it down and shoot next week. Very satisfied with the consistency and definitely not going to be a hasty shooter from now on, I'll take all day if I have to for 10 rounds landed perfectly.

Oh I'll try that too however sellier&bellot 168gr match literally blew my mind... I'll try that at 1000 meters for sure, I'd kind of like to try a few of the match grade ammos out there for sure.

When I and the wife move to Calgary in October I aim to get a membership at the Edson mile range... There I'll try out to 1000yds, in Nova Scotia its slim pickings finding a range that's over 100 yds to plink on. I've taken advantage of the coyote season to get a little long range in in a a few slashings though, out to 500yds however I didn't have worthy ammo to really put to the test till today.

Yup 2 bucks a shot for decent match or buck a shot for customized reload. 1000 shots = 1000 bucks, more than enough for good reload equipment.
