Hi, just a bit confused about ammunition for the Yugo M48 mausers
Is it 8mm, 8x57, 8x56, there seem to be different ammunition for these rifles. Are they different chamberings, or different nominal sizes, what is READILY available, and safe to shoot??
I am not set up to reload at this point.
Thx in advance
Tim

Yugo mauser are in 7.92x57 (8x57) mauser. As far i know, surplus ammo have dried up so reloading or new factory ammo are the options(unless you find surplus at gunshow)

Tradex and CanadaAmmo both carry PRVI PPU 8mm Mauser.

Edit I see both are out of stock. Not surprising with all the M48s selling at the moment. I expect they'll get more.

I just scored 140rnds of corrosive, 1942 dated. It came in two bandoleers of 70rnds each on strippers and costed me $183 in total with shipping. Private seller on a small local trading board.

8mm
8x57JS
7.92x57 mauser JS

Is all c9mpatable and the same ammunition for m48's , std K98's and many older Turkish and Egyptian arms

Careful note 8x57JRS is NOT the same and has a large rim on the cartridge which is in tented for older (turn of the century) Mausers. You can distinguish this by the R for "rimmed" and the much higher avg price.

This was my exp with factory ammo so far

Buy-S&B SPCE 8mm shoots like lasers from my Mausers

Buy-Hornady custom SP 2nd most accurate and nice ammo

Don't buy-FMJ Could not hit the broad side of a barn at 100 yrds (never once hit a large target 40rds 2 rifles)
