Ammo Conversion

.308/7.62x51. These and the .223/5.56 are very similar but not absolutely identical cartridges. There is lots of information about this.
Frequently cartridges have an imperial designation and a metric one as well: .30-06 and 7.62x63. Some have different names: .44WCF and .44-40.
Don't look for standardization or uniformity in naming cartridges.

244/6mm remington, 280/7mm remington express, 7.92x57/8x57/8mm mauser. 7x57/7mm (spanish) mauser, 30WCF/30-30, and many more.

7.62x51 and 7.62 NATO.
7.62 x 54R and 7.62 Russian. You'll also see it called 7.62 Russian Rimmed and 7.62 x 39 called 7.62 Russian.
6.5 Carcano and 6.5 x 52 and 6.5 Mannlicher-Carcano.
7.35 Carcano and 7.35 x 51.
.380 ACP and 9mm Short, 9mm Browning, 9 mm Kurz, 9mm Corto, 9x17mm.

This stuff can damage your brain almost as fast as trying to figure out why a cartridge is called what it's called.
