Thinking of getting one of the new M1 carbines. What is ammo going for these days and where you getting it?

I've seen Federal FMJ (US made, brass cased) around at various small stores but it runs $30-40 for a box of 50. Hunting or self defence ammo is the standard $1/round.

30 carbine is one of the easiest rounds to reload

So is mine. Some of the powder went bad. The primers often ignite and the pressure is enough for the bullet to get launched an inch deep into the barrel. I keep a rod nearby when shooting that stuff. Can't complain, I didn't pay much for it. lol

About 5-600 rounds loose in a 7,62 ammo can. Must have been stored in a humid environment at some point.

Could been the large quantity that was recovered from sunken ship. Loose bullets and such?

lol quite possible. They don't look corroded at all.

I load plinker ammo using the plated 110gr berry's bullet and 2400 powder. Works well.

I recall diving on a sunken 40 foot cruiser in the Bahamas and finding very rusted M1Carbine mags (loaded). Apparently the gunrunners anchored for the night and forgot to put the bilge plugs in and the boat sank.
