I saw some pretty cool Russian handguns for sale for only $109.00. It was a revolver style gun that shot a rimmed cartridge. Was wondering if it is a case that the ammo is impossible to find or is it available in army surplus crates. I don't remember the dimensions of the cartridge but I'm sure some of you handgun guys will know. Thanks.

7.62x38 the ammo is almost unobtainiam. Every so often some stores get it in but isn't very cheap. Usually around 45$ for 50 rounds. And theres definitely no cheap surplus for it. You can reload for it but that's no simple task either as the dies they sell arnt meant for the true 7.62x38 cartridge

Canada ammo has it in stock.

Looks like 11 boxes on there site at 34.99 a box

not cheap for ammo and harder to find, the gun is a steal of a deal for the price (if u have ammo for it).

This handgun must have quite a kick with its 38mm cartridge. My TT-33 with its 7.62x25 ammo is pretty kick ass and I guess this revolver is a real wrist breaker. :eek:

Just looked at the canada ammo page for the 7.62x38r ammo. It looks like the lead projectile is jammed into the case, almost like a blank round. What us with this?

It's not the sort of ammo you think. Check out the gun and the ammo used for it at Wiki;

Much or maybe even most of the 38mm length is take up by the bullet. The actual muzzle energy is lower than a .38Spl by quite a bit.

Reading around about the Nagant revolver you'll find that some other more normal ammo can be used in it. Not properly but it at least allows you to shoot the gun. Apparently the DA pull is pretty stout and will wear out your trigger finger quickly. Not sure what the SA pull is like. Never shot one myself.

The revolver works on a gas seal system. When you #### the hammer the cylinder pushes forward and the case mouth actually goes into the barrel. So you don't loose gas between the cylinder and the barrel.

I have a well worn 1931 Tula example-so worn that the normal extractor has been replaced by a cut down Mosin Nagant 91/30 cleaning rod! From what I have heard these particular revolvers were most effective at "necking" kneeling POWs, and other "undsireables"....

If this gun could talk, I'm not sure I'd want to listen to it.....

BELL Distributor will be importing PRVI Partizan 7.62 Nagant into the country this year. Ryan at SFRC has a bunch on order and should be receiving the ammunition when the container arrives in early summer.

Had one in the US that came with a cylinder that fired .32 ACP. Double action trigger pull was really something. You were not only cocking the hammer, but camming forward the cylinder. Not something anyone would choose to do. Another solution to a non-existent problem.
