In light of the fact that copper has dropped from like 4$/Lb to $1.5/Lb & Leads High was 1.75 and is now sitting at .50 - Prices of the actual metal is way down.

I wonder how this will effect the price of ammo???

I know that there are production costs and importing costs but it must get cheeper at some point in light of the raw metals costs plummeting....

It doesnt work that way. Cost of raw metals goes up, ammo prices go up. Cost of metals comes down, ammo prices stay the same. Why lower them when people are already used to paying more?

For EURO importers, the major issue for us is the low CAD v. EUR. We are at near record highs and no one knows if it will come back. Prices go up yearly regardless of commodity values.

Peter

I just purchased ammo today and the prices were the same as they have been all summer. I was informed that the next shippment would be higher due to the CDN dollar being lower. So I bought more:)

Yes price will go up .

A five year low for copper? That will effect prices... Hheheheh A 3 year low for lead?

Been reading here long enough to remember reading the threads that stated part of the reason the ammo prices were going up was the high prices of copper/lead.

CDN BDX a bullet manufacturer has statements on their website to that effect as well...."Lead and copper remain very high, and supply of bullets and components are becoming very limited in some caliber's, thus pricing increases, have to do it, to keep the lights on".

.."Price increase due to the price of LEAD Alloy and Metals costs. This has effected all manufactures of shooting components, and munitions.."

So lead/brass/copper prices can raise the price of ammo.... but they can't lower it. :slap:

Too many gun stores have very poor stock at very high prices. Is it an import problem? Then TSE in Calgary has lots of nice stock at reasonable prices. Unfortunately I think there is a lot of gouge factor in the retail price of ammo in Canada. My friends in the USA complain about the price of factory ammo? I tell them they have nothing to complain about.

I know from experience , that most gun stores TODAY make 10%-30% profit on ammo, regardless caliber. Some of them make more because they import directly from the far east.

Even 30% is not much.

May have been them but even recall graphs posted with the price of copper and lead to justify the increases. Whatever reasons works at the time.

There is a lot of panic buying and stockpiling going on in the US right now, so there is no relief in sight.

I think that 1-2 years from now the panic will have died down, America will be in recession/depression, metal prices will be low and wars will be grinding to a halt. That should be enough to move the supply/demand curve in our favour.

My initial post was not meant to point fingers, just draw an obvious conclusion.

If production costs go up then retail costs go up.... production costs go down and prices stay the same or go up... HU?

Oil companies are famous for this over the last little bit....

I would like to purchase a bunch of ammo but am holding back for prices to drop which they eventually will. Everything that goes up .... eventually goes down... it is an inevitability..... just like the stock market....

Just have to wait alittle longer.

Thanks goes out to all the dealers/importers that are bringing in ammo and trying to keep a surplus for sale onhand.... Everyone understands profits margin & overhead... just wondering when/if you, as the importers will see a price drop that you can pass onto us here at home.

You guys know that the prices of commodities are quoted in $US, right? So the changes are not as great as you suggest. Also, we have not received 2009 pricing. t is very possible that prices will be dropping, however the prices of the ammo on the shelves does not change because of changes in commodities or $s. It was bought and paid for at the old price and was priced to reflect the correct margin for the retailer.
