Sorry if it was posted already, i did not find the informations whit the search tool!

i want to buy a norinco m14s but i cant seem to find ammo in montreal for it!
7.62x51 NATO, where can i find it???
is there a substitute?

Hi there. There are lots of threads about this question floating around...mostly because there is not much actual 7.62X51mm ammunition available. If you're lucky, you may be able to find some South African surplus for somewhere in the 55 to 60 cents/round range...but there's not much of it.

Between high energy prices, high commodity prices, and a war being on, ammo is both in short supply and expensive right now.

You can indeed substitute something for 7.62X51mm. Regular .308 will work.

BUT

#1. They are not quite the same specifications. If you're a nervous kind of person, you may want to have a gunsmith take a look at your M14 first, checking the headspace for .308. Or check it yourself, if you care to learn how and acquire the tools.

#2. Using heavy loads will damage your M14 if your do it regularly. IIRC, the maximum bullet weight or regular use is 168 grains. You should be able to find something at or below that weight without too much trouble.
