ammo shipping

Almost all of them will, aside from Canada Post. They typically charge an additional $25-30 dangerous goods tariff on top of the shipping cost, and require a minimum of three copies of a Shipper's Declaration of Dangerous Goods. The packaging must be appropriately labelled with a 1.4S sticker and the UN number, which for small arms cartridges with inert projectiles is UN 0012. Some carriers will not ship dangerous goods unless you have a business account with them.

To ship a single box of ammunition legally is not worth the expense. I suspect though that a good deal of ammunition in small quantities transits the country via Canada Post without their knowledge. It won't go off in the parcel no matter what the postal system subjects it to, but if the package is damaged and the contents revealed it could prove unfortunate for the shipper. Maybe don't put a return address. (I am not condoning shipping ammunition by mail :p)
