For the Specialist out there.

Is it true that some ammo manufacturer, when it comes to 44 Mag, 357 Mag and 45 Colt, produce 2 different kinds of ammo : one for pistols and one for rifles, and the one for rifles are 1.5 times more powerful than the one for handgun.

Any truth to this.

Not much truth to that. Imagine the lawyers looking at the possibilities.

Out of a longer barrel you get better preformance but they don't tailor ammo like that. The home reloader can to a degree but its still just taking advantage of the longer barrel generally. Most modern guns are rated to about the same pressures for those cartridges be they pistols or rifles.

I've shot Hornady's LEVERevolution from my 629 with no issues, very accurate. I did not feel much more perceived recoil from it than other ammo. Probably a good ATC round. VERY expensive though... I reload now anyways.

"...they don't tailor ammo like that..." Remington does and has for eons. Typical .357 and .45 Colt usually aren't, but 20 round boxes of .44 Mag ammo is rifle ammo.

I heard something like that too. Not sure if it's true, but someone tell me that the rifle ammo come in 20 rounds boxes and pistol/revolver one come in 50 rounds boxes.

Ammo is made to SAAMI spec.

With ammunition manufacturers being so liability concerned these days, if it can be safely used in one type of firearm, you can safely use it in another type of firearm of the same caliber.
