I have a sump pump room in the basement with metal door, lock and no windows. The room is not wet, no mildew or anything, but you can smell the presence of water there. I just measured humidity there - 61% now, but it's a rainy day today so it's even 64% in the rest of the basement and the same 61% upstairs. I haven't lived in the house during winter and spring time yet (just moved in) so I have no idea how it's going to change. Do you think this room is suitable for ammo storage?

as a general rule, i keep anything firearm & ammo away from humidity.
But i guess since you just stated that moisture level is the same in the rest of the house, you dont have a lot of options do you?
Maybe try to lower those numbers with a dehumidifier?

As long as the ammo doesn't have water sitting on it, it can stand pretty high humidity.
60% is not bad for a basement (especially with standing water in the sump). I try to keep my basement to 55% in the summer with a dehumidifier. In the winter, it's naturally below 50%.
The dehumidifier is a good idea for reasons other than the ammo, but could add significantly to your power bill.
