I've search and found my answers regarding bullets and grain sizing (weight), however, there isn't anything to suggest or deny that the powder amount loaded into the cartridge is the same or different when the grain size is changed.

Can anyone clear this hiccup in my thought process for me? Thanks!

If you are reloading your own boolits then read the manual , may be more than one . If you are shooting factory ammo , just pull the trigger , it should go bang . That's it - Biggs

There are many different types of powder, flake type like bullseye or ball type like H110. Generally flakes are going to be lighter then the same volume of balls. For example 38 special loads can vary widely by adjusting the weight of the powder. Powder is weighed in grains. 7000 grains equals one pound of powder. Hope this helps. It would be a good idea to get a Reloading Manual. It will list all the appropriate powders and weights to use with any cartridge.

Generally speaking the lighter the bullet the more powder behind it.

eg. 9mm using tightgroup starting load for a

115grn bullet is 3.9
Vs
147grn bullet is 3.2

Just to be 100% the grain is a weight measurement that does not change, not a “piece” of powder (like a grain of rice). So if you change powder the number of pieces in a grain will change.

As long as by grain size, you mean the weight in grains of the projectile, I THINK I understand what you are asking.

Two cartridges:

150 Gr .308 Winchester Super X

180 Gr .308 Winchester super X

The primers and brass are likely identical. I think you understand the difference between 150 and 180 grain projectiles.

The powder used in these two different factory loads may or may not be the same, but the AMOUNT of powder will almost certainly be different. If two different powders are used, there is no guarantee that there will be the same amount of powder in each cartridge.
