Hi,

every time i contact a company to buy ammunition and have them shipped to me they tell me about these new rules concerning the shipping of ammunition.

what has changed?

Others will have better answers, but I believe CanPar, is the only company that currently ships ammo. I don't know any of the why's though.

ETA, I was right, others did have better answers :)

Special shipping rules for ammo is pure bunk!

Can-Par ships ammo because it is a "dangerous good". So when I buy ammo from anywhere in Canada I pay a premium for the safe shipping. So it comes from where ever and goes to Edmonton. That's all fine but now how does it go from Edmonton to Fort McMurray as Can-Par doesn't ship directly to McMurray. This is the kicker, they have a contract with Canada Post to deliver from Edmonton to McMurray. So this "dangerous good" is now delivered to the door by the same regular postal service that states it is too dangerous to send ammo through the regular postal service.

In the end it has proven to me to be nothing more than another cash grab.

I use Canpar and no problem.

They are not considered "dangerous goods" as they are exempt, something about consumer quantities or something like that.

As I've heard there is no legal reason Canada Post doesn't ship ammo it's a rule of theirs nothing else.

It's like ICS (a courier for the insurance industry). They refuse to deliver to an address unless it is a registered business address..........that is unless you ship it as a "next day" item which is much more expensive.
