Hey there,

I just cannot remember... I've searched around but can't seem to find a definitive answer on how ammunition is supposed to be transported. I found a bunch of info about restricted firearm, but nothing precise on ammunition.

I'm pretty sure the RPAL instructor told me to keep it in a separated locked container, but what happen when you go out to wallmart and buy ammo? You can go out with them in a plastic bag? Or is it that if it's transport with a firearm, it has to be locked, and if you're just carrying ammunition, it can be unlocked?

I'm asking this because I will be going at the range for the 1st time this saturday. I'll rent a pistol there, and will probably buy an ammo case. So will I need a lockable container to put them in, or I can just leave them in their cartboard box and put them in my trunk until I get home and lock them in my safe?

Thanks :)

Carry your ammunition any way you like.
Go to the RCMP website and read the rules for transporting firearms. Look carefully for any rules about transporting ammuntion. Tell us what you find.

Only info I found is:

http://www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/cfp-pcaf/fs-fd/storage-entreposage-eng.htm

For storage:
"Store the ammunition separately or lock it up. It can be stored in the same locked container as the firearm. "

Nothing about ammunition transport...

So it's "Any way I like" for ammunition. As long as the restricted weapon is:
-Unload the firearms; and
-Attach a secure locking device to the firearms; and
-Lock the firearms in a sturdy, non-transparent container; and
-Remove the bolt or bolt carrier from any automatic firearms (if removable).
-Obtain an Authorization to Transport (call 1 800 731-4000).

Rivalen... You were liklely unable to find any direction specifically for your question......... Because no one else is as conserned as you are in transporting ammo...

Read: You are not required by law to lock up ammo.. durring transport or storage.. common sence may compell you to keep ammo out of sight if unattended, but you are not required to "lock and key it"

Storage it can't be within "easy access to the firearm"
Transport my ammo sits on the back seat right next to rifle
The important thing is that firearm is being stored and transported legally. ammo is no big deal
