When I learned about these pistols I did an obsessive search to find one here in Canada. It was difficult, however I finally found one! These go for just over 1K and I have always wanted a 2011 pistol so I snatched it up.

I just took it to the range for the first time and I am pretty happy with it, however it was a learning experience.

These pistols need base pads or need the front of MecGar P18 floor plates shaven down to fit (the mags that come with the pistol have base pads installed, however aftermarket mags need the base to be modified or changed). Mine also needed the extractor tuned. I was getting FTEs all over. A small DIY job later and I seem I have it ejecting reliably now. Of course it isn't going to be up to par with an STI or SVI pistol, however reviews online show they are reliable. It is a budget option for some of us not so rich folks out there that still want to dabble in the 2011 pool.

The pistol came soaked in oil and I have spent time wiping it down inside and out, and it still seems to ooze out here and there. The finish is good. Nothing fancy as one would expect. The slide has minor play in it, again to be expected with a budget option. The action is smooth, and the trigger is pretty good. It is adjustable, however I have not made it around to tinkering with it yet. The sights are good as well. It comes with a fiber optic front sight and adjustable rear sight, however the fiber optic in the front sight is somewhat cloudy. Fine for my intended use. Also notice the ambidextrous safety.

The pistol weighs about 3lbs unloaded, but doesn't feel overly heavy in my holster or in hand. It points very well and is more accurate than I am. I want to spend some more time doing some accuracy testing, but it is hard when rapid firing is so much fun! The pistol comes right back on target after every shot making follow up shots a breeze.

I plan to update this thread as I gain more experience with the pistol. It is hard to contain my excitement over owning a 2011!

That's a nice looking pistol...congrats...would love to try one....I have a 1911 addiction...there I've said it...

From what I read in U.S. publications the Americans seem to really like RIA pistols. They are the equivalent to the SAM pistols we get up here. Both are Philippine made. I wouldn't be surprised if they are the same company although that is just a guess. Some are better than others. I have 4 SAMs. Three are great (excellent fitting, accurate). The other one (a Thunderbolt) was the best looking pile of crap I ever saw. Pretty but lousy workmanship evident everywhere (I sent it back). Hopefully you got one of the good ones.

Anyone currently seen this at a Canadian dealer? I've only found RIA guns at one QC non-sponsor dealer and they don't have this model. Seems like one of the best options for a budget 2011.
