They supply Howa with laminates too, and who knows how many others. I've got a 22/243 Middlested put together on a XR100, that thumbhole is about as comfortable a prone stock as you are likely to find. It isn't good for much else, but wasn't meant for anything else.
Here's some of the Howas. http://www.legacysports.com/product/specs/howa_supreme.htm
Nope. I am not suprised at all to tell you the truth. Boyds is a company who mass produces stocks.
It looks like a person has the option of building their own remington thumbhole. If you already have a remington action and barrel and wanted a thumbhole type remington, all a person has to do is buy a thumbhole designed stock from boyds. This will save a few pennies when compared to buying a new rifle. I cannot comment for everyone else, but I like knowing that one has found a good deal.
Compare the price of a new XR100 in .223 to replacing the stock. I believe that the XR100 comes with a target barrel though, and it wont be exactly the same, unless you have a target barrel to put into the boyds. That would be the difference.
Good link dogleg. This helps me out for a future project I have planned.
I would rather have a varmint type rifle with an internal magazine and boyds wood. Thats my opinion though, and there are sure to be others who disagree with it. Thats fine, everyone is entitled to their opinion.
