An Interesting Lee Enfield Sporting Conversion

The drop of the stock must have been the personal choice of the maker. Removing the butt socket doesn't weaken the action from the shooting standpoint - but provision for a recoil lug must be made. The Epps one piece conversions are well known, and No. 4s in 7.62x51 were set up in one piece stocks for DCRA/PRA target shooting.
Anyway, it is an interesting, ambitious gunsmithing job. A lot of time and effort went into it.

When I saw it on the auction website, I thought that the "maker" should've taken the "Mannlicher" style a bit further, with a capped full length stock & proper sights.
Really capture classic styling.
Years ago, there was a semifinished one piece Lee Enfield stock on a gunshow table for $75. Didn't have the sense to buy it. I have an Australian SMLE receiver that would be ideal for a one piece conversion. It is in nice shape except someone bashed one of the rear trigger guard screw lugs. Don't know that I would want to undertake whittling a one piece stock out of a walnut plank (have some walnut planks, as it happens). I have a SMLE barrel with a sharp bore with a large hole someone drilled a few inches from the breech. 22" of barrel beyond the hole. I could use the breech to make a receiver bushing and thread the remainder of the barrel back into it. Also have a .32-20 reamer. Might make up a nice, light classic sporter...

I've seen a few one piece stocked enfields, and that is a lot of work to make the stock. The trigger is another issue that needs to be sorted out. One I saw used a Mauser trigger.

I may have a take off Lithgow barrel in good condition kicking around the shop too.

Drop is a little extreme on that stock but somewhat inline with older europian design. Don't know but assume the action was drilled -tapped for mounting bolts, should not be a problem. Have always been a sucker for the butter knife bolt handle.
