Hey everybody. I have recently re-introduced myself to hunting. After almost a 20 year pause, I just recntly purchased my first new rifle (.243 Savage) and within the first week shot my first ever coyote. I spent many hours as youngster on the farm dispensing gophers, rabbits, crows and magpies and went on several deer hunting trips (both rifle and bow) as a teen. Since my son is now 14 (almost 15) and has shown an interest in guns, decided the time was right for us to spend some quality time together in the great outdoors hunting and fishing. I was quickly amazed at the variety of rifles available at very reasonable prices but I am sure that I will be asking for some advice from many of you as I embark on doing my own reloading.

Cheers

"...recently purchased my first new rifle (.243 Savage)..." Nice. Which model? Another .243 will do nicely for your kid too. Mind you, let him pick his own rifle though. It's a personal thing. Suggest, but don't tell.
Getting your lady involved in shooting isn't terrible either. Just don't get angry if she out shoots you both. Women do that.
When you're ready, don't hesitate to ask any reloading questions you both might have. Look into an RCBS Beginner's Kit. Gives you everything you need less dies and shell holder. Comes with a manual, but buy a Lyman book too. It's far more versatile than any bullet maker's book. Not that there's anything wrong with the Speer book.

The rifle I got is a 11fycxp3. I have been really happy with it since its my first new rifle. I did pick this model with the kids in mind. 2 of the 4 are interested in shooting and we spent some time last summer in the backyard with the air rifles "training". And yes, my daughter regularly outshoots us, shes got a gift. I borrowed a nosler book (like the info on each caliber) and a lyman book from a friend so I could get an idea of what I'm in for. Seems that organization and attention to detail are the keys to success. Thanks for the info.
