I just acquired an old Cooey 12 gauge model 84. I really want to know how old it is. I was hopping someone could help point me somewhere I could find out or anything. I pretty sure it was made between 1919-1969.

To the best of my knowledge the Cooey Model 84 was made from 1948 till 1967.From 1961 to 1967 the Model 84 was manufactured by Winchester Western who purchased H W Cooey in 1961.

Congratulations, enjoy it

I have the exact same models, but in a 410 and 16. The 410 was the first shotgun I ever owned back in 1975 (or 74, maybe 76, can't remember it was too long ago). That shotgun did the job to many a-rabbits and squirrels. A few years later, I found the 16 at a garage sale and used it for duck and geese. I always thought that the single shot aspect (which means you can't miss) help me become a better shooter.

Unfortunately, today I hardly use my single shots any more and am hunting mostly with my Ithaca shotgun or my Browning PBS. I only use them one or twice a year when I take them on a hunt for nostalgic reasons.

Enjoy
Regards

I met a guy one morning last fall carrying one of those. It looked like it lived in the bilge of a crab boat with electrical tape holding the stock together, patches of rust on the receiver and barrel, and he knocked a snow goose out of the sky with it before heading off to work.

My first firearm was a 28 gauge Winchester Cooey Model 84.Still have it and take it out once in awhile for old times sake.Still seems to bag game as well as it did all those years ago.

This is my first shotgun and I am pretty excited about it. I haven't shot it yet, I Can hardy wait to shoot it off. It was my fathers gun and I don't think it's been fired in over 20 years. Everything looks good on it though. It definitely isn't as bad as the one MD describes so I think it will be fine to shoot

Congrats on the 84, from what I have owned, shot, seen and handled, all Cooey is well made and designed, sadly they are no longer in the business. I am still hunting for a 84 as my last shotgun purchase.
