I was looking to buy a shotgun. It seems the only option I have for a decent shotgun is to buy a pump gun. So here it goes.
I owned a rem 870 express before. I don't like it:D.

Then I seached the net for infor on Moss 835. Not too good either. Wingmaster, too expensive (a few bad reviews too). Moss 590A1, not enough coverage for a allaround gun. I considered those baikals SxS, O/U as well. Although, I shoulderd a few in local store and felt right for my built, many bad reviews hold me off (double fires, etc).

Finally, a Benelli SuperNova seems the logical choice. Is $600 the "proper" price in Ontario? Thanks.

Winchester 1200, or 2200, or 1300, or whateverthehellnumber they decided to put on it, is another good choice.

Is it fit you're having difficulty with, or what?

One of the most cheapest shotguns on the market is the maverick model 88 . It is made by mossburg. It will take all mossburg 500 items such as different barrels, etc. Good place to check out prices would be SIR. Not much differance between the mossburg and maverick.

i have shot a REM 11-87 SPS for a few years. i use it for birds and trap, hasn't failed me yet. i think they are selling for around $650.

Cheap all purpose....Maverick 88. It's one of the cheapest(pricewise), big name shotguns that is usuable, easily serviced and works.

A step up in price would be a Winchester.

Versatility and easy parts turning comes with a 870 (Express)...

Of course these are new shotguns. There are plenty of used shotguns that'll service your purpose quite nicely.

Back to Mossberg, there is a decent 590(not mine...) on EE.

:D
Thanks a lot for all the inputs.

I might choose one between a synthetic 870 supermagnum and a supernova.

I figure the longer forend of supernova may be more suitable for me as well as the adjustable LOP. Currently, the stock on most available adult pump gun are too big for me:p.

Consider the Stoeger P-350

It's a copy (sort of) of the Benelli Nova. They have had some very good reviews and it is considerably cheaper ($350.00 range) than the Nova

Best choices for a all-round pump IMHO (in no particular order):

- Ithaca Model 37 made after serial number 855000 so you can interchange barrels. Ithacas are all steel ;) They still make these, but hard to find the new ones in Canada.
- Winchester Model 1897 take-down. A REAL classic that slam fires and is malde entirely of milled steel and walnut.
- Winchester Model 12 or the modern browning copy thereof. You can still buy this gun new in 3" chambering and interchangeable chokes. Probably the best made pump gun you still buy new. Blued steel and walnut - sweet. Sadly, it doesn't slamfire in the current iteration :(
- Remington model 17. Beautiful bottom-eject shotty, but only available in 20 gauge :(
- (believe it or not!) Norinco HP-9. Takes remington replacement barrels and is BETTER fit and finished than the Remington 870 express. Think "Parkerized wingmaster".

Can you tell I hate aluminum and tupperware made shotguns?

870 supermagnum...
Avoid the 3.5" supermagnum unless it's strictly a turkey gun. Swapping to 3" chamber barrels can cause weird issues. Regular 870 Express 3" will do everything you'll need.

I'm still pissed the don't make monster slugs in 3.5". That'd be a treat.
