While going through my archived animal and hunting pics, i came across this pic i took while moose hunting. Its a picture of Evan Skjolas from Norway who was shot and killed in 89 while bear hunting. This incident is unsolved to this day and was even on NBC's unsolved mysteries. He was shot and killed while on the very cutline where the posted pic of him was cemented in the ground. Everytime i went by the pic, i thought of him and it was also very eery and sad knowing that someone in Alberta or Fort McMurray for that matter did this to this fella and to this day is living with this secret when there is a family clear across the world that would like some answers. to this day i have always hoped i did not know or know of the individual that did this. Chances are are pretty good that i may know the culprit as i lived up there for 33 years.

That really is sad.

BTW win94, are those bullet holes in the sign? What kind of ####### would shoot up a sign like that?

Just goes to show not all people in the woods with a gun can be trusted, most yes, everyone NOT!!
Obviously, eh! A Holes!
May he rest in peace, May he watch over all the "true" hunters that cross his path.

What a bunch of flippin A**HOLES i lost my uncle in 96 to an unsolved hunting accident he left behind 2 young children and a wife
i feel for sorry him and his family
i hope someone has the decency to step up an say something and to disrespect a fellow hunter by shooting at his final marker like that ought to be hung up by his testes theres no place in the woods for anyone like that

That is very disturbing to say the least, the fact that somebody could take a life and never say a word.
What were the circumstances, was he alone when it happened, did they ever recover a bullet, was there ever any controversy over the hunting area?
Really makes me wonder.

Not trying to hijack this, but in case someone saw what happened..... unknown individual shooting a fellow hunter and taking off... what can be done? Calling the mounties !?!
What would you do if your partner was shot? ... SVT40?

Is the damage to the sign repairable? I would chip in some money if you could get it fixed. Kinda like desicrating a grave is'n it? -----Cowboy
I remeber that incident.
The RCMP interviewed EVERYBODY that had a bear lisence that year!
When the cop came to my house he was actuaqlly disturbed that offered up what he considered so much imformation.
He was also very distrubed at the number of firearms in my gunroom!
Most were tasrget rifles, however, and my main hunting rig at the time was my long bow or my muzzle loader.

The info that distubed him was when he showed me a picture of a tree stand and I said right out
" That is not a tree stand for a rifle hunter, bow hunters made that.
Did you find a barrel about 30 feet from the base of the tree?"
He asked me how I kenw if , I hadn't been in that area that year as I had originally told him!

I simply explained to him how bow hunters set up their stands to get a broad side or quartering shot at the bear from their stand and that the bait was placed so that the bear would have to extend his front half into the barrel.
Apparantly they found the fellas who had made the stand when they posted the picture at all the archery shops in Alberta!

I am not sure where the monument is, but as President of the local Fish and Game Association , I will I will ask the executive to pay the cost of having it fixed.
Any directions to the site, Win94?
