I understand that in IPSC's Production Div, slides are not allowed to be painted purple or have sparkles sprinkled on them while the paint is still wet....but....
Can a slide be refinished in its original finish? IOW, can the rusty slide on my XD9 be refinished before it ends up like Swiss cheese and still be legal for Production?

Yes, but it can't be redone in a finish that doesn't come with the gun.

The Nickeled Glocks which were looking oh so pretty (for a Glock) are now ruled to be illegal in production division. Any refinishing must be the same as the factory finish.

yeah, let's not bring up my beautiful, chromed CZ-85Combat which, overnight, went from a great looking top of the line Production gun to... a nice looking plinker...

Doesn't the issue have to do with the notion that black sights might be easier to pick up against a silver frame instead of a black frame ?

I thought the rule said it had to be a factory refinish, not just to look like one.

Agggggh! I just looked at the new rulebook. Wording is just as ambiguous as it was the first time.

I think the key, though is "You are not allowed to change the ORIGINAL color and/or finish"... If it was blued, and you reblue it, you're not changing the original finish, because it is STILL blued. If it's a Glock, you'r SOL, because I understand that the Glock finish is proprietary.

The wording still stinks. A lawyer or an grammar major (do they have people that major in Grammar?) would probably go round and round about the wording and context.

As for why you are not allowed to change the finish or add racing stripes, allow me to quote Vince Pinto in a response to one of my emails....

The basic concept is "If you want to customise your gun, we have another four (4) Divisions". Once we start to allow embellishments, it's a slippery slide towards significant modifications. Will "racing stripes" make any difference? Of course not, but what about the guy who asked me about painting a fluorescent line along the top of his Glock in order to give him faster acquisition of his sight picture? Or the guy who wanted to apply some sort of lead based paint to "refinish" his Glock, but where he actually wanted to increase the weight?
