annealing advice

If you run .30-06 cases into an AI die, very little sizing is going to happen. When you fire the round, it will fireform to the new chamber. I have not found the need to anneal cases going from standard to AI .22-250. Make sure that you can just feel the bolt close on the round. You want the casehead against the boltface for fireforming.

I had an 06 AI and just fireformed without annealing with no ill affects.

I don't have any standard 30-06 dies, so won't have any standard '06 to fireform, so wanted to go right to resizing with the AI dies.

If you are starting with standard .30-06 fired cases, the only part of the case that will be sized in a AI die will be the neck, and perhaps a bit of the body just in front of the extractor groove. The rest of the case will not touch the die. If new brass is used, only the junction of the neck and shoulder will make contact with the chamber - just enough that headspace will be correct, and the case will be supported for fireforming. Once brass has been fired in your rifle, the body and shoulder will be blown out to conform to the AI chamber. When you size this improved brass, be careful that the brass is sized correctly. The die may or may not have been made to exactly match the chamber cut in your rifle.

So just load regular 3006 to regular data and fireform, you can run them through you AI die first. Will size the neck. Then load to AI data. Good luck. You will enjoy the AI, I liked mine...

You can use a Lee Collet die (regular 3006) to neck size this caliber as well. No lube, no removing lube....
