It's interesting that in the USA society allows you to take much more risk without interference then if you do screw up the lawyers and the legal system make you pay and pay.
Here in the nanny state the government tries its best to keep you from hurting yourself or others but if you screw up the outcome on the legal end is much the same, at least in principle.
