A two man team shoot is a Buddy Shoot. An Annie Oakley shoot is where all the shooters line up,usually at the 27 yard line, and the lead off shooter calls for the target. If he hits it,the next shooter calls for a target. If the first shooter misses, the second shooter tries to break it and if he misses, the third shooter gets a crack at it.If the second shooter breaks the target,he eliminates the first shooter. If he misses and the third shooter breaks the target, both the first and second shooters are eliminated. This carries on down the line with every shooter being given the oppurunity to shoot lead off. There is a catch here, that if any shooter breaks the target and the next shooter shoots anyways, that shooter will be eliminated for shooting at a dead target. The last man standing is the winner. The thing here is not to miss and you won't be eliminated. Our club has run run Annies with up to 45 shooters which can be done with one trap.An aquaintance of mine ran one this past Christmas at his club and had over 90 shooters and had to make use of two traps.
We charge $10 to enter, with half going to the club and half going to the winner. That's a nice payoff of $225 to the winner of a 45 man Annie.

The game that I know as an "Annie Oakley" is an elimination trap game that involves all the shooters available. The more, the better.

Everyone puts their name into a hat and the shooting order is drawn. All shooters go to the trap line and stand shoulder to shoulder between stations one and five.

The shooter in position #1 is the lead off shooter. The shooters in positions #2 and #3 are back-up shooters and load and mount their guns too.

The first shooter calls for a bird. If he hits it he's finished until the rest of the squad shoots. The shooter in position #2 becomes the lead off and the shooters in positions #3 and #4 load and mount their guns and so on down the line.

If however the first shooter misses the bird, shooter #2 takes a shot. If he hits the target then shooter #1 is out. If shooters #1 and #2 miss and #3 hits the target then shooter #1 and #2 are eliminated. If however shooter #1 knocks a chip off and #2 shoots then #2 is out for shooting a broken bird. If shooter #3 shoots before shooter #2 then #3 is eliminated because he shot out of turn.

Shooting out of turn nullifies everything else that may have happend. So if shooter #1 misses and even if #3 breaks the target, shooter #1 is not eliminated.

If shooter #1 chips the target and shooter #2 AND #3 shoot at the target then only #3 is eliminated. (This rule varies. I've seen the game played where both are eliminated.)

After the entire squad shoots those who are left move back a yard and the shooter on position 1 starts again. Get a good group of shooters and you can find yourself well beyond the 27 yard line in no time.

Another rule is the first shooter must shoot at a rising target. No waiting them out to make it impossible for the second and third shooters to have a fair chance.

I won one this year with about 30 shooters. The fun thing about these is that luck plays a roll as well (as it did when I won) and anyone can win.

If we go back behind the 27 yard line at our club, that puts the shooters either in the office, the kitchen or on the rifle range.

We start at the 22 yard line and go back from there. I've been well behind it sometimes. Longest shot I made ever was at an Annie. I was third gun, we were well back and the target split just before it hit the ground. There was a guy with a laser rangefinder who gave me a number I still don't believe to this day. It wasn't three figures but it was damn close.

Lot of guys will stretch the rules on shells for an Annie. If you know what a Wabash load is you'll know what I mean.

The way to build the pot up(at least in US shoots) is once you've missed your third you are out or you can buy back in for $10 (for one miss).
