What really annoys you in another hunter? Like if you had a day hunting with someone for the first time, what kinda things or habits or attitudes etc do you just hate or get annoyed with. Or if you happened to stop and chat with another hunter in the bush.

On the same thread, what do you like. what makes you think, "Gee, I'm glad I stopped and talked etc" or we'll definitely have to get together again.

Hunters that put other hunters down that do things differently really annoy me! (shooting too far isn't real hunting, Using hounds makes you less of a hunter, using a rifle is unfair, killing elephants with crossbows is unethical, single shots are unethical, in-lines are unfair, how could you kill a bear....blah, blah, blah) That and people that use rifle scopes like binoculars!

Oh ya and trophy hunters that look down their nose at other people's accomplishments......don't get me started....there's more.

People that take a geniune interest in youth hunters and take time to talk to them like real hunters get my utmost respect as do those that truly mean congratulations when they say it.

People that hunt while intoxicated and those that litter are both annoying.

On the other hand there are those that stop to pick up other people's garbage. Like Sheephunter, I like it when hunters take the time to mentor youth; it is also great to explain our activity to non-hunters who show an interest.

People who can"t be quiet or who carry a cellphone turned on. People who regularly wound game by taking crazy shots. People with no muzzle awareness.
People who don"t appreciate the difference between sitting from before daylight watching the sunrise before shooting a deer you"ve been watching for days versus spotting one beside the road and shooting it off the hood at 50 yards.
Come to think of it, lots of stuff annoys me!

People that drink and hunt at the same time. They drive intoxed and hunt that way. Leave garbage in the bush along with bottles and cans along logging roads. Those that think they are better than the rest and have a nerve to call themselves troffie hunters or tell you all the big animals they past up becouse it was not big enuff ( B.S. like tht really gets me going )

I have a great deal of respect for the hunters that are out to hunt and enjoy it and shair it with others. I have taken out newbeis many times and I tri to get them a nice sized animal. It gives you a really good feeling to do it and I hope others tri it and ined out just how good it feels to shair that rush when you get a real nice sized animal

I don't like it when a cell pone rings and in the middle of the hunt some guy is making his mexico plans !!!! Hate it!

I don't like it when people find it necesarry to pass on their personal preferenes to you in an "all knowing" manner" ie. You should be standing like this when you shoot, you should be using this type camo, etc etc.

If you pack enough sandwiches so that I can have one, you're number one in my book. (i usually pack a bit extra for the same reason)

I really enjoy a good down to earth chat if I meet up with someone. someone who admits thy are beat to a snot, tells me what they saw last week over the ridge I'm about to go up over, admits they missed a shot,

Whenever I see a kid toting a single shot with his limit on birds , that makes me smile even writing it.
so does the old guy, out of breath, doing his best while explaining to me about his diabetes or swollen prostate !

Guys that are too lazy to dig their own cat-hole in the bush on the other side of the road from the camp site and leave the area littered with ........

guy that feel the need to make hunting into a party as in, loud music excessive drinking etc and folks that chuck all the garbage on the fire and leave while it still burning.

I like folks that are open to differnt ways of hunting as i am.

Folks that dont need to kill every animal they see and feel that a good day out is just reward and the takeing of an animal if chosen is an important choice be it a dink or a dinosaur and all are trophys.

No one mentioned the guy you are hunting with, together in the bush. A deer appears, standing quietly. Partner gets his gun up quicker than Wyat Earp can draw his six-shooter, and bang, while you stand there looking. Then he has the audacity to brag about "my deer", the rest ot the trip and at home.
Here is my plan, for the last many years. Decide ahead of time who shoots. The one that sees the game first is often used, but I use a different method. Make an agreement on time shifts. Flip a coin to decide who has the first half hour, then change trigger man every half hour.
I have never seen a hunter who wasn't happy with this arrangement. One time two of us were going at daylight to watch over a good site. That time we used fifteen minute shifts.
If anyone in Western Canada has old copies of The Outdoor Edge, in the Nov.-Dec, 1999 issue, I had a feature article on an outstanding hunting partner.

Im pretty laid back hunter, I hunt to feed my family and relax from life's stress's.

things that anoy me are lax gun safety and people that think our woods are a garbage dump, pack it in guys, pack it out. (minus human waste, im not that eco crazy)

things I will not tollerate is drinking and driving/hunting. leave that till the end of the day at camp.

Likes: A fellow hunter who gives you a hand, offers you the shot, tells you something useful you didn't know, offers you a better spot, helps you track. I'm fortunate enough to go hunting with guys like that.

Sheephunter you really nailed it with that summary. Hunting is about doing, enjoying and most of all sharing. Sharing a fellow hunters trophy, big or small, someone's first hunting trip or a youngsters smile after they've bagged their first grouse..... it just doesn't get any better than that. Selfishness and egotism will ruin a good hunting trip faster than flies on your backstraps.

One of the things I really enjoyed, was Big John's accomplishment. He hunted every season from the day he returned home from the war, until the day he died at 87. My father did the same, and he died at 78. Something I hope I can do as well. (minus the war of course). They hunted to have a good time, and they didn't care if they shot anything or not. They were good safe hunters. Sometimes I think they hunted to escape their wives. :)

Most of the same stuff annoys me, as annoys the rest of you. I'll add the guy who walks in on you while you are on watch, and decides that nows the time to talk.

annoyed

Iam Not the guy to litter drink/drive or make illegal shots but If I get out with an good buddy or fairly new one Iam happy. Noone is perfect and the time I get to spend away from work and the city is just to much fun for me to waste being annoyed with someone. Finding someone to go hunting with is very hard to find, or at least I think so. Everyone I have hunted with has been awesome and I will remember them always even if they think Iam annoying.

Being newish to hunting and shooting, I really appreciate it when someone takes the time to stop and give me tips or hints.

An example of this was when I was sighting in my rifle for my first mule deer hunt. Was offered tips by some old fellow on proper shooting position. After going through a box of shells his advice had me shooting much better.

HAha. He also helped me unjam the semi-auto 30-06 I was lent for the hunt. The person who lent it to me didn't really show me how to use it and I did not know that you had to rack the bolt back with quite force.
