I bought a beater sporter from TradEx and after fully bedding the receiver and cleaning up the trigger I ended up with this:

Which resulted in this:

For my first deer I was very pleased!

Congratulations. It's a shame this round is not more used and respected. These old timers suffer at the hands of all the modern ctg. of the month enthusiasms, but the 6.5 produces fabulous groups, flat trajectory, mild recoil and report and excellent killing power. You made a good choice.

Good moves Charles.

Way back when I got started with the 6.5x55 Swede, it was 'cause thats all I could afford.
Nowadays, ... it's all that I really want.
Plenty of other fine and fun calibre's and rifles in the safe to play with, but after 40 years it's the Swede that pleases the most.

Century International

My very first centerfire rifle was a sportered M38. It came with a monte carlo sporter stock and see-thru scope rings. I later put on a Ramline syn stock and Weaver bases and mounted a Tasco Pronghorn 2-7x32 scope. This set up would shoot 1/4" with Yugoslavian 130gr sp all day.
I replaced this set up with a Win M70 Black Shadow in 30-06 because I did'nt know any better..................soon though, with my tax return I'll be picking up a Tikka T3. I did look on Trade Ex and seen a "Churchill Highlander", never heard of this one?
Nice 1st deer btw!!

Very nice.....I've been looking at the Trade-Ex stuff for the very same reason...something mine, original and personal. The first deer is the one that gets talked about the most....congrats

Thanks.

One of the main reasons (besides it being a 6.5x55SE) that I chose this rifle was that it is a beater. I don't care if it's snowing or raining when I take it out. And it shoots way better than I do.

Sure looks different here than on their site. Eye candy.
Goes to show you that their rating system is a tad light.
Meaning they don't over rate the condition.
What modifications did you have to do to get that scope set up working?
Modify the bolt handle?
I see you used higher mounts and normally this looks like a suitcase handle but
yours sits on there well. What did use for mounts and a scope?
Sorry for pestering you. A while back I was chomping at the bit for one of these
for my daughter. I bought her a Stevens 200 but I think what you did here would
of been a better set up. Great caliber as well.
Cheers, Looky.

The rifle came with the see through mounts you see. They are apparently made by Parker Hale and are now obsolete. The rifle also came with a 2.5x scope with a post reticle which I did not care for. I ended up buying a Bell (yeah I know so don't bother beating me up about it) 4x for $50 mounted and bore sighted from Epps. So far it works. And yes better optics are on the list.

I'm not a .264 dia fan, but I have an absolutely warm spot in my heart for the 6.5X55. I like it more than the 270win, and if all things where equal, I would prefer it over the 270 (a nicer step down from the 30-06). The things that are going against it, is that it's not always available everywhere, you can't easily/properly make brass from anything else, and the factory loads are enemic (just in case your ever not able to reload for it). On the plus side, it's generally very accurate (all companies seem to do this well, as why buy a new factory rifle that can't shoot as well as the military surplus), and recoil is really no worse than a 243.

Just picked up my Tikka T3 6.5 SE today, I must say I am very pleased with this rifle.
I took it to the range to fire off a couple of shots and I remember now how this light/easy recoiling rifle was why I made it my 1st centerfire rifle (ever) choice 22yrs ago. I still can't explain why I ever got rid of that Carl Gustav M38 in the 1st place and I don't know why I waited so long to find another.

AH, another 6.5x55 rave!. I don't know why the 6.5x55 seems to get so much love. It's not new, its not short and its not a magnum, I thought those were the things that made a cartridge great right?

Glad to see that not everyone spends all day obsessed with short mags. The 6.5x55 really is a great round. I know I love mine!

I have a Winchester Model 70 Featherweight in 6.5x55 and aside from the fact that it is light, handy, deadly accurate, a real killer etc. What I love is that it shoots all bullet weights into the same vertical line. No need to re-sight in when switching from 120's to 140's to 160's. Dead on at 100 yds with 160's, 2" high with 140's, 3" high with 120's. I've never owned a rifle before that shot like this. I don't know if it is the rifle or the cartridge.

The "swedish target rifles" from tradeex look really fun. The only peep sight I have is on my .22, but it's really really fun to shoot, makes me want to get better with iron sights at more medium ranges.

I wonder, what is the difference between these "target rifles" and the regular milsurp ones offered by Tradeex? besides a couple hundred dollars in price and (I'm assuming) different sights. Does anyone know?

If you're talking about those swede CG63 rifles - they're true target guns. Better sights, better bedding, different barrel, better trigger etc.

Actually, I'm not totally sure on the different barrel, but everything else, yes. I'm about 95% sure on the barrels.

P.S. If you buy from Tradex, you will not be disappointed. Really easy to work with, will take extra pics of the gun you're considering, super fast shipping, and if anything, they under-rate their stuff. I bought a gun with "good" condition bore that looked new! (Can you tell I liked dealing with them? :p )
