Took my neighbour hunting, and he got his first moose last Friday using his old Husqvarna Model 96 .

Matrix 270 gr Bonded Core and CF8506 handload at around 120 yards.

We'll have him cut, wrapped and in the freezer next week.

No shortage of meat this winter. :)

:)Well done. I have a couple of boxes of Matrix 290gr FB Bonded bullets set aside for similar duty in my ;) '.366 Wagner'.

Thanks for the heads up on the typo, brybenn. The 270s are running a bit over 2500 in his Model 96.

I guess you are whopped after dragging a deer that far! We took this bull apart, six packs, a whopping 65 yards to the canoe. ;)

Congrats.
Great Bull.
9.3 X 62 is a great cartridge.
The high section density of the heavier bullets means that they can blow through heavy bone and muscle. The moderate velocity also doesn't lead to as much blood-shot meat as some higher velocity rounds.
Did you recover the bullet?
If so what fraction of weight retention did it have?
Or perhaps a though-and-through shot? (I like shots that fully pass through to open up the maximum wound channel for a quick kill and an obvious blood-trail)
Stay safe,
Dogsteve

Beautiful bull, should make some good eating. Love hearing your hunting stories especially with the 9.3x62 be used.

:)Agreed. Mr. Moose is not only my favorite hunt experience, but also my favorite as wild game table fare. ;) As such, one of my favorite dishes comes to mind. Sirloin tip Moose roast, garlic mashed potatoes, yorkshire pudding with a 'healthy' helping of dark Moose gravy. Life doesn't get much better :d .
