I've had a few AR's before, and I like to thank I have learned a bit about them. However, I just assembled an Armalite Lower today with a Stag lower parts kit. Mother of god, the pivot and take down pins are so frigging tight, I need a 223 round to push them out. I have seen the take down pin tight, but the pivot pin on this one is so tight it has to be tapped in to get it to sit properly. All my other AR's could have the pins removed with your fingers...

Oh yeah, here's a crappy picture - Armalite lower with a CTR, flattop upper with 11.5" heavy barrel, ARMS 40 BUIS and a Flamin' Pig flash suppressor.

The Diemaco C-7 I had in The Army was the same way. You had to use a round or a pen cap to push out the pins.

Tight putting the pins into the stripped lower or when installing the upper to the lower?

Both really, but more so mating the upper and lower. The front pivot pin was very tight, even without the upper. Once I moved it back and forth, it got a bit better. And the detents engage VERY Positively. I guess it is just tight tolerances. And let me tell you, it is quite exciting putting that front pivot pin together (this was the first time I assembled a lower completely by myself - and I didn't scratch it;)).

It's probably a mix of crisp, newly machined surfaces and new finish. It wears in quickly. The last lower I put together required superhuman strength to punch out the takedown pin the first time. Now, at two months old, it is among the easiest to takedown ARs I have used, bordering on loose.
