This year the matches are held by la Ligue de tir longue distance Québec, there's a new match director and they added a twist to the format, a twist in the right direction.

We were shooting on the Trois Rivière UKD range, there were 23 shooters competing, the gang from Cadex were also present with a few of their toys for the folks to try out.
I mean, how often do you get the chance to shoot on of these?

Conditions were ideal for long range shooting, high teens temperatures, wind in the 2km/h range and a nice thin cloud blanket to defuse the harsh sunlight. Just perfect.

The match was 4 stages and could require up to 68 rds to complete. All the targets were steel silhouettes like the old IPSC but narrower, they were 690mm tall.

In the morning there was a briefing and a quick zero confirmation for those needing it. Then we shot the first two stages

Stage 1 was a know your limites stage, 1 shot was taken at either of 3 targets, the closest was under 400 m and worth 3 points, the mid target was under 500 and worth 6 points and the furthest target was just a shade under 700m and worth 9 points. Yes we were given the exact range of the targets, but I forgot to write them down in my notes.

Stage 2 was 10 targets at UKD, target were designated by the RO, we were given 2 minutes to mill and come up with our solution and then we shot. First shot hits were worth 2 points, in case of a miss, you had 10 seconds to reengage second round hits were 1 point. Target distance went from 289m to 901m.

We then took a brief lunch break of Subways and pop ( included in the $40 match fee) and then proceeded to shoot stages 3 and 4.

Stage 3 was 5 targets at knows distance shot from the prone position. Target ranges were: 430m, 372m, 660m, 702m, 782m and 901m and shooters were allowed 5 minutes and 20 rounds to complete the stage.

Great match format, awsome venue and a great groupe of folks to spend a day on the range with. I want more of those.

They try to run a couple of matches a year but they are at the mercy of the Base and sometimes will loose the range at the last minute if the army needs it.
