I have used shearch and did alot of reading. I will be getting a custom rifle in near future and would like to know what I need to clean it. I gather I need a one peice rod, jags , patches and a bore guide... where can I buy a bore guide I am in middle of no where LOL and wanted to know where to order in Canada if I could

thanks

Justin

Give Plenty "O" Patches in Drayton Valley AB a try. They carry Dewey rods, and have good quality brushes and 100% cotton patches cut to the correct size.

Their contact info is:
Phone: 780-514-1243
Fax: 780-514-7663
Email: do_so@telus.net

The last case of WipeOut I bought was from BC Redneck, google him.

thanks guys keep the info coming I have been doing alot of looking and there are some basics of cleaning i just have to decide what I feel best is for me

I just received a Hoppe's cleaning rod from LeBaron, one piece rod, nylon coated, with a pretty nice handle for 25$, they are sold out of their bore guides.

Appreciate the referal 284.

yes, I can help with all the tools needed but I would like to add that the better the barrel, the less you will clean.

You are getting a custom rig and are still asking about bore snakes ??

its my first nice rifle and want to make sure I take care of it. custom or not I am a newbe to rifles as all I ever did was waterfowl and them guns have been threw war. i want to make sure I clean this right. no harm in that ?

OK, if you are being serious then here is an answer. Don't use a bore snake - they are a 'field expedient' method of cleaning only and have no place near a custom target/tactical rig. Buy a calibre appropriate one-piece cleaning rod like a Dewey or similar; a bore guide ( I personally don't think it matters which one ) and some Wipe Out or similar product. If using brushes use a nylon brush and use sparingly. Internet is your friend for research and shopping. Lastly, if you are having someone make you the rifle as him for specific advice re break in, cleaning and maintenance. Enjoy your new rifle.

thanks alot!! I am being serious as I want to gain as much info as I can as everyone has different thoughts on cleaning. I want to gain as much info as I can and make my choice on what fits me and my rifle

actually, OVER-CLEANING can wear out a barrel far sooner than shooting it-the rod bears against the crown ,and you soon acquire a "flat spot' - then you have to get it re-crowned

That would be damage caused by IMPROPER CLEANING.
