Why do people buy deer tags and assume they hunt wherever their little hearts desire. We are getting screwed over in November with the rifles, and now in December with the controlled hunt. There are only 3 of us hunting with shotguns this week so we tree stand hunt, not like the typical 175 person group who drive the bushes. This hillbilly guy comes up to us on Wednesday morning, rolls down his window and out bellows all the cigarette smoke, and asks us if we are done hunting for the day so they can walk through the bush and drive the whole concession. We lie and say no, just going for breakfast and be back in an hour and are there all week, even though we are not there till Saturday again. He actually tells us that it is an inconvenience to them because it interrupts their driving plans. NOBODY ELSE is allowed there other than us. He is the land owner on the side of the road, and gets denied permission every year when he asks. They STILL walk through our bush because they know the hours our land owners work. I try to remain calm and ask them how many deer they have, and he says 8, not including the nice 6 pointer they just shot in behind me about 400 yards or so away. This is as of 9 a.m. Wednesday morning. We have zero deer with only seeing 4 on Monday morning, too far to shoot but that happens. This crap just makes me belligerant and it seems to be getting worse every year. Now we are starting to get less and less deer because of this.

Hi, same here with us. We hunt with shotguns on our own land. It seems because of the extra snow this year, every a-hole poacher with a snowmobile feels they have the right to push all our land. Guess what...., us that hunt legal, have no deer. It's because there are none around. The game have all taken refuge in the Park sanctuaries and I can't blame them.

Snowmobiles chasing my ass down, would have me scurrying for deep bush as well. I guess we will have to fence every quarter section in able to fill our freezers from our own land. Oh , I forgot, they just cut our fences anyways.

Looks like I'll be buying a sled for next year and I'll be chasing down poachers, not deer.

Arch:)

Cletus, if you know they're gonna be pushing the land at a certain time and you won't be in there and you also know they don't have the permission, call the MNR and tell them to be there at 11 a.m. cause someone is gonna be trespassing.

Arch, fire up your sled and run it right through their god damn land. Had a few native americans running my lot a couple years ago before deer season opened and had the MNR let them know it wasn't their ancestral hunting grounds anymore. They were charged for tresspassing but got off of course cause the judges know if they punish them they'll just have another 40 on the doorstep in 20 minutes. Don't let that turn into a racial statement cause I hunt with 2 very ethical native hunters in moose season.

These people are all over, and the worst offenders around here are the locals. They think they have the right to go any place they want, and their neighbours don't report them because they don't want to start trouble. The only good thing is that most of them are too lazy to bother with muzzleloading, because of all the cleaning. I now only hunt in muzzleloader season.

I agree, most of our troubles come from locals. A few of us have already decided next year we will be stepping up our bow hunting. They won't dare be roaring around in cropped fields with quads. That results in an insta-beating.

It is a shame when an honest hunter spends thousands in proper gear anticipating a fun hunt. Only to have it wrecked by poachers and tresspassers.

Arch:(

If your landowner is compliant get a letter authorizing you as his agent to prosecute trespassers. Tell the O.P.P. to be ready cuz your going to be charging repeat trespassers that day. This type of action will get you feared and hated as well... but it is the only way to deal with local retreads.

Yup.....the local game warden knows me and he knows Im out there all the time and I have no problem turning guys in who break the rules......It's called being a law abiding citizen and if we don't do it, you can't expect the officers to do it all.I like seeing the game warden out and about while Im hunting. I have nothing to hide and I gladly help them weed out the arseholes that make our lives miserable.Always carry and extra coffee cup for the boys.....they support us like no one else.

I would love to try all these actions, like calling the MNR ahead of time etc., but it is not my property to do that neither do I have permission to do that. The last thing I want to do is start a war between owners and have repeated troubles between them or between us. It may be time to go more hardcore during this week and actually be there all day and week and leave a bunch of vehicles parked all over the place. Because it appears the last couple of years, when we are there, they tend to stay out. Will have to try that I suppose.

Trespassers

Cletus I hunt on my own with the same situation you have. I get out on my stand before this group of arseholes start their drives, let them work by me and then drop in behind them about 15 min. after they go by. Taken two nice bucks that way. Let them get them moving.

trespassers.

i don't agree with this type of hunting, but in our area doen't matter how many deer there shot because there will be some to take there place in a couple of days. We took 3 monsters and 2 smaller ones within 100m of the same drop zones. Butlike the others posted tell the conservation officers, or other legal inforcers. they can deal with it. and post the land.

I've found that the loudest whiners are newbies recently moved to the country and want their land posted to suit their personal pursuits and yet are constant violators of other's land rights. They snow mobile or ATV at will on unposted land or even hunt there. Most of the original locals never needed to post until the urbanites thought their building/burial plots gave them the keys to the township. The OPP now have 3 tree stands sitting in Lindsay waiting for their owners to claim them. As for worrying about groups that drive hunt, they keep the deer moving for all those who buy into the spook technique. The purpose of the farmland hunt is to control the deer population, as a landowner the groups who take 9 or 10 deer are the ones getting the job done. When you have rants remember their is no one right way to do anything.

and for many reasons like the above I don't hunt on private land.

But living out here I have a lot more choice. And a lot more deer from the sounds of it, I had no problems filling tags.

I also hunt solo, no trying to drive animals out of their cover, I just prefer being out in the bush doing my own thing.

now if its pest control your looking at thats something else, the farmers in some areas are being overrun with deer and in those cases there is no problems getting permnission and your limit.
