A buddy of mine got a set of rosewood Hogue grips for a square butt K/L frame Smith revolver that he found he no longer had a need for (long story). He offered them to me at a really good price. I have three sets of the smooth, no finger groove laminated rosewood grips already. I asked if these had finger grooves, as Hogue's finger groove grips don't fit my hands. He said they did.
A bunch of us were meeting for a beer and bite to eat, so he brought them for me to check out in person. Turns out they were checkered with just a single, top finger groove. I held them, and sure enough, the point sat right in the center of my middle finger. I thought about it for a bit them said I'd take them (thanks Dave!). I figured I could make them work.
the grip:
Some Dremel work:
After four hand rubbed coats of True oil:
Finally, installed:
There wasn't a lot that I could do about the checkering at the point of the groove. I considered sanding off all of the checkering, but decided I could live with the small buggered bit. They feel about as good as my factory smooth grooveless grips.
