A week ago today an icon of gunsmithing passed away in the hospital in Kelowna, after a 3 year battle with cancer. Bevan King, a very good friend and mentor of mine has left us. Many here knew Bevan and a good many have had work and barrels done by Bevan. Although not a subscriber nor fan of CGN (in his words "too many know it alls and idiots") I thought I would post his passing anyway as many here have known him.
I won't go on and on in a long eulogy just thought some here may wish to know.

Not what I was expecting to read when I clicked on this forum.... very sad news, I have been away too lng and didn't know he he was ill :(

My condolences to his family and those that knew him.

I had a bad feeling when I saw this thread. Talked to Bevan a few years ago when I thought the movers lost my .510" SS barrel. Turns out I misplaced it. Glad I did and found it again. I guess I'll have to build something out of that barrel eventually.

I worked/helped Bevan make barrels for a few years back in 1995-1999. He taught me so much, and we had a great friendship! What an opportunity it was to learn from him! I will miss the old mate!

He had so many stories of P.O. Ackley, and a few other fellows of his day. He was creative, and resourceful in his approach to barrel making!

As my life got busy, We lost touch awhile back. I went to trades school and got my Millwrights ticket. He was, and will always be a good friend! Rest in peace my friend!

May all your chips flow smooth, and your tool bits stay sharp in heaven!

This was my first of a few custom rifles that Bevan helped me with. Bevan watched over me and gave me guidance as we built this 25-06 barrel. It was so exciting making my own barrel!

Hope you like the pictures! Thank you so much Bevan!

the laminate stocked rifle is the 25-06 Barrel that Bevan and I made.

Yes, Kath passed away on May 3rd.

I first met Bevan in August, 1971, in Whitehorse. He was a great friend, as well as a great man!

His celebration of life was today, in Pouce Coupé.

Met a few CGNers there, as well as some of his friends and neighbours.
