Another LTATT question - I've done some reading though..

I've done a google search, read some threads from CGN and read the RCMP info article. I tried to download the PDF for the ATT application but for some reason it wouldn't download. Says I need an updated Adobe but I'm pretty sure I'm up to date. The thing with the CGN threads I read are that they are either from 2012 or older, from the perspective of someone from ON or BC. The RCMP article talks about ATT, not about LTATT specifically, and I've read a lot of contradicting info.

First off, I'm from Alberta. I am wondering if, when I call them to apply for an LTATT, do I need to take the initiative to tell them what conditions I want on it, or do I just say "I want an LTATT" and they issue it with the ff. conditions being automatic:

1. To all approved ranges in AB
2. To all borders
3. To all certified gun smiths

I read one post where it says to ask for all options: daily frequency, all hours, all approved ranges, all certified gun smiths, borders etc etc. Do I have to be the one to bring that up and assert which options I want or will they go over all the possible options available?

Also, I would like some clarification on the range membership bit. I know that the LTATT is valid up to the expiry of your RPAL. However, I've read posts where it says it's valid while your membership is valid. I have a range membership and it's annual. Does that mean I have to reapply for the LTATT every year?

Also, I read that they will require proof of membership to a range. With my range membership (CHAS), I just got my plastic membership ID and two printed letters about general info. None of the letters state my name on them, to serve as a certificate that I am a member of the range. Should I just snap a picture of my plastic ID and email that to them?

If there's anything I missed please let me know. Thanks.

You have to ask for whatever conditions you want ie, 24/7 , approved ranges it Alta and Yukon (or NWT), all border xings, all registered gunsmiths etc. photocopy of your range membership should do, LTATT condition may say range membership must be maintained

You can try asking for the conditions you want, but don't expect to get what you want. None of this is intended to make anything involved with shooting easy for you.
Club membership, not range membership, has been made mandatory by CPFO policy. No law requires it. However, you won't get anything without it.

My current LTATT ( sask ) was issued from Alberta CFO office. I didn't ask for anything, they simply sent it to me, good for 24 hours a day, all approved ranges in sask, gunsmiths and border crossings.

They asked for a faxed copy of range membership proof, I just photocopied my range card and PAL on the same sheet and faxed that in.

Okay, so I called CFC today to ask for LTATT. They didn't ask me any questions. Just asked me to email them a picture of my gun club membership and that they will mail my LTATT to me. So I guess I'll just have to read the conditions once I get it.

So.. I got my LTATT beginning of April and with the new BS that they no longer include trips to gun smiths with LTATTs, I was wondering if those of you that have this condition could clarify something for me. At first, I thought my LTATT didn't include gun smiths because on the 2nd page under "Conditions and Destinations" it says:

"To: To and from all approved ranges/clubs and international border crossings in the province of Alberta."

and it didn't mention gun smiths. I even called CFP about it and that's how I learned that they no longer include that condition. But yesterday, I read it again and noticed on Page 3, under "Additional Conditions":

"This authorization allows the holder to transport firearms from the place of registration to a Gunsmith licenced as a business under the Firearms Act for the purpose of maintenance, repair, modification or deactivation and return to the place of registration."

So..for those of you that have been issued LTATTs before this new 'regulation', can you please confirm if that's how it's worded in your LTATTs? Would like to hear esp from AB residents.

Guys I'm just in the process of renewing my PAL - and the AB CFO requested my range membership 'proof'.

Emailed them a photo of my 'Calgary Shooting Club' associate membership (valid for one year) at 6pm on Tuesday. Wednesday 7:30am I get an email with a LTATT, for four years (why not 5? or 1? no idea), to any range/border/gunsmith.

Not sure why some guys have gunsmith not listed, but mine is only a few days old and has it.

"Transport to and from all approved ranges, licensed gunsmiths and border crossings in the Province of Alberta"

The 4 vs 5 years is because they can't issue more than 5 years and it expires on your birthday. So if you got it issued before your birthday, it will be more than 5 years if they add an extra year as they have to make the expiry coincide with your birthday.

ETA: That's what happened to me and I called and asked about it. It's stupid, they should just make it valid until your PAL expires.
