Another money grab - AB.

Timely post. Just yesterday a co worker mentioned he was qued up on-line for a camp pass Waterton Park.
Within the first hour over 9000 requests for over night camping. I think he said by noon at camping reservations filled to capacity summer 2021.

What a bunch of crooks. Just this year I had the idea to tour around Nordegg to not deal the National park BS and costs. This garbage does not come in effect till June so I guess I am going in May

Waterton is a very small park and immensely popular, no surprise. What we really need is more enforcement of regulations, I don't believe it's going to happen. Just another cash grab.

Grizz

There is a vast provincial and federal debt. This is only the start of newly created user fees and higher taxes. This country has a real goof in Ottawa, spending unprecedented amounts of money as if tomorrow is Armageddon. He shutdown the oil industry and has not created any jobs. The wealthy, moreover the middle class, will be paying for most of it.

They'll enforce it very strictly during hunting season and very lax during summer camping. Just like ATV trail rules. Summer yahoos tear up wetlands and alpine meadows and then a hunter gets a fine for following a gravel road through a 2" deep "creek".

This is totally fine in my book. If you guys were out in the backcountry in AB last year you would've seen the disgusting mess people left. It was totally unacceptable and in order to pay people to clean it up they'll have to implement fees. I was shocked and disgusted by the condition people leave nature in these days. Crown land, just like any land, needs to be respected. If people can't do that, then we all have to chip in to prevent long-term damage, or at least deter jackasses from ruining areas like Ghost etc.

If the cops can't keep people from littering how are they going to keep them from camping?

Correction the connected wealthy will not pay they will make millions it’s the majority of middle class who will pay.

And it's $30.00 per person per year for 18 years old and up, plus $3.23 plus GST per person processing fee. Incredibly cheap (by Government standards if you were to ask them).
So, if you and your significant other are out camping in the bush with absolutely no services (because all the Provincially owned campgrounds that haven't been closed off have been handed off to private contract operators and are booked solid anyway), and a couple of your older kids/grand-kids drop by with their tent for a few nights visit, it will be a $135.00 family get-together.
But on the bright side your younger kids can be with you for no extra charge (as yet - whoopee !!!!).
This will also apply to everyone in your usual Crown-land temporary hunting and fishing camps.

It's just your Government working hard for you, to get you all outside in the fresh air so as to avoid Chinese strain Covid infection. You should all be grateful.

From the way I see it, either they raise taxes for EVERYONE, or they charge a fee to those who are actually using crown land.

From my view its not much different than public transit - the brunt of public transit costs are on the users of the system.
