Here's my 2nd mulie buck of 2007. This guy was sitting in an open stubble crop with a doe. He was actually hard to figure out how to get a good shot at him cause there was nothing to use to make a stock on him. I got as close as I could and made a 320 yard shot(my farthest kill shot) with the 270 wsm and dropped him, then dropped the doe that was bedded with him.
Im offically done for the season now after hunting hard from Sept 1. It kinda bums me out now I have to wait till next year to hunt deer. Good luck to you guys that are hunting right now!! Take em Big!!

how close is the nearest cover? I mean do these deer live out in the open like that? do they ever go into the timber?

This northwestern Ontario bow hunter(BUSH all BUSH) has trouble imagining what its like out there...

are you guys allowed to drive quads or trucks to the deer?

Most deer live in the river valleys and come up to these fields during the night to feed and sometimes just bed in the middle of a field. Most times they easily get away cause they see you walking towards them(from hundreds of yards) and run the opposite direction.
There is alot of trees and cover along the Rivers but its pretty much all open country till you hit Saskatoon and then you get lots of timber.
You can't use a quad to hunt deer and the zone I hunted restricted trucks to roads and trails.

Cheers!!

You can't use a quad to hunt, but what about retrieval...or are you in the provincial park near Cabri (Sask Landing)?

Yeah you can use one for retrieval, seen lots of guys have them on the back of their trucks, not really sure why when you can drive up to the kill site pretty much anywhere with your truck. Looks cool I guess:D

Wow, that a bruiser! Nice job and congrats. I hunt southern Alberta in similar terrain for mulies.... one of my favourite hunts.

Very nice mulie indeed he is SOLID!! just got one the other day myself im pretty proud off, similar situation in the middle of a open field. Sure makes them harder to hunt in the fact you cant get as close to them as you would like but who isnt up for a challenge? lol
