Thank you to all who posted in my thread yesterday about a newly acquired M27.

This Finnish 91/30 was from the same estate as the M27, and I went back to see it again today. I spent a bit of time admiring it, and knew very quickly I wouldn't leave without it. :)

There are a few chips out of the stock and the bolt has some characteristic pitting, but other than that it's in wonderful condition IMO.

This is neat:

Most of the completed rifles make use of a hex receiver, indicating a M91 receiver or an earlier style M91/30 receiver. There are a small number of the Tikka M91/30's that have round receivers, which indicate a later style M91/30 receiver was used. The round receiver was implemented by the Soviets in or around 1937; however, while not the norm one can still encounter hex receiver Soviet rifles with dates past 1937. The exact number of these round receiver Tikka's is not known, but it is clear the numbers are rather low. These round receiver rifles are an interesting variant of the rifle to collect and many collectors have indeed snapped up these more uncommon versions.

Great article here:

Looks a lot like my Tikka (rebarrelled in 1942). Mine has the lightest trigger pull of any milsurp that I've fired-i'd say maybe a 2 lb single stage.(comparable to a modern hunting rifle). VERY accurate too, but usually the first shot is a flier because I'm not anticipating the crisp let off:p

Where do you think Tikka got their ideas ????

These Tikka rifles are vastly superior to the standard russian issue rifles. The Tikka barrels were more accurate, and the bedding and trigger work done by the Finns Armorers make them the best 91/30's to be found.
