Hey folks! I'm Matt, and I'm glad to see a canadian gun forum. I work in the bush most summers and use whatever I bring relentlessly. I collect mainly pre-sporterized surplus rifles and I have a special place in my heart for Enfields (Wouldn't be suprised if that bugger's saved my life). Why sporterized? I know that my summer living conditions are rough on whatever I'm using no matter how well I try to clean them after the fact...and I can't justify destroying anything original. Safe's also just about full...looking for the right Garand to fill the blank.

Welcome to CGN, Matt.
I am sure you will find this to be the best gun forum around.
Tell us a bit about your shooting interests.
Have a look at the Newbie FAQ section. A link can be found in my signature line below.
Where abouts in BC are you? I'm in Langley
I hope you enjoy your visits here!

Hey TooTall! Gotta say, good info you got on that link there. I'm a Richmond kid, though I'm usually kicking around UBC. My family's never been able to support my interest, so my acquisition / participation in gun ownership with all the fixins' came about the past couple years when I started working in the bush (treeplanter/firefighter) to pay for school (Forestry). After a while and some apple shooting on the block, the companies I worked for started paying me to shoot (mainly warning shots) for bear issues. The policy (Workers comp, I believe) is that if a bear ever gets into food in a bush camp, they have to be shot. My dilemma now is that I get plenty of shooting in during summer, but come school year, there's nowhere near to close to me where I can shoot.

Another developing interest is hunting...my girlfriends father invited me for Elk...though I need to take the CORE and get the paperwork done...

I'm wondering if anyone from BC has any info on the proposed Richmond Rod and Gun Club Range that's to be setup?

Welcme to CGN, DoLC.

A range in RICHMOND???  Given the rate of development there (think "wildfire") I can't imagine the city approving a range, but I guess anything is possible. Maybe there's still some as-yet-unaccounted-for land around Nº 9 Rd.

When I was growing up in West Vancouver there was actually an indoor rimfire range at Ambleside. The building is still there AFAIK but I imagine the range went bye-bye a long time ago. (And no doubt the Martini .22 target rifles, too... aaarrrghhhhhhhh.)

We're spoiled out here (Mission)- we have a flat 300 metre range.

:) Stuart
