Hey CGN,

I guess a little about myself is in order. I'm looking into getting my RPAL/PAL soon, so I've come here to gather some information and hopefully learn from everyone else on here. I have some minimal experience shooting; two mags of a Sig Sauer P226, a few 12 gauge rounds, a couple magazines on an MP-5, a few rounds on some .22 semi-auto, and a police issued sniper rifle (gotta love Vegas). I should say, since that experience I've become hooked and really can't wait to get out again. I guess thats why I'm here, to see what the world of shooting and gun ownership is like around here and hopefully become one shortly!

Thanks,
Mike

Welcome.
Don't just think about.... do it!
Take a course (get the RPAL along with the PAL, obviously)
I used FAC Firearms Academy Canada at www.guns.to

They were excellent, but there are many other choices.

There are lots of delays and hassles, but you should recognize those as the attempt of our government to discourage you from owning a gun, and it should be incentive to try extra hard.

It takes 2 months at least from when you finish your course to until to get your RPAL and PAL, so the sooner you start the better.

Lots of guys say that want to give it a try... I find only a small minority have the determination to jump through all the hoops. Do it! And come here for help - lots of great people will help you out because we want to keep gun ownership alive and healthy in Canada despite the best efforts of the anti-gun crowd. And we've been winning recently.

x1000 It take some work to get thru all the crap - but never loose sight of the goal. Once you are in - you are in for life and you become part of a great group of people

Thanks for the warm welcomes!
I'm just in the process now of trying to find a RPAL/PAL class that I can get into in the near future.

I appreciate all the info and links! Hopefully I'll be able to catch you guys at a range soon.. In the meantime I'm going to try and get out as much as possible (as a visitor) to the range's around here and try and gather some more information. Hopefully I'll see you guys (and ladies) around soon!

-edit- I must say, out of any forum I belong to, this has to be by far the friendliest and most resourceful for information! You guys have an awesome group of members on here

Firstly welcome aboard!

I successfully completed my PAL/RPAL in early May. I used York Region Firearms Academy in Richmond Hill and I highly recommend them. A great bunch of guys.

welcome, Mike.
Try out the Guelph Rod and Gun Club, or the Galt Sportsmens Club, once you have your PAL. I am a former Toronto resident (for 20 years) and now living in Wellington county (Guelph). Plenty of great places to shoot handgun and rifle...and if you are exploring the shotgun world, check out Oshawa or Hamilton...bit of a drive, but worth it.
Good luck, and keep your powder dry!
