Hi all, I guess I should have posted here first.
My background:
In 1969, a year after immigrating to Canada from behind the iron curtain, my dad bought a Cooey 64 and a Cooey 840. The 64 was fired on less than 10 occasions and the 840 was lightly used to shoot clays with a friend of his.
The guns have been sitting in storage for the better part of the last 10 years, unused. Dad never bothered getting his PAL or registering them under new legislation. The RCMP had given him one last amnesty extension a few months back. Figuring this might end badly, I asked, "you're not doing anything with them, may as well give them to me now." He agreed. I challenged the PAL exam, dad shipped the guns in plain brown wrapper via Canada Post. The firearms center didn't ask any questions and everyone is happy. This took place between Jan and May of this year.
Since May, I've added a Mossberg 835 Ulti Mag (clay) and the Savage Mark II B (target) which referenced in another thread. The latest addition, a Savage 111FCXP3 (target and eventual hunting tool)is on its way from Cabela's.
Since challenging the test, I've been introduced to other gun owners in the area, have begun to make new friends and will be joining a fish and game club with range shortly. I've been given the excuse to look someone up that I haven't seen since my childhood (one of my father's friends / coworkers), and through him, will be expanding my social circle.
The hunter's course will happen over the next 6 months.
I've spent the last few weeks lurking here, sponging as much info as I can; this is a great place.
One more thing, I'm new here, but what are the chances of acquiring a gunnutz hat?
