Hope someone can help. Is it possible to take both the pal and rpal courses shortly before your 18th birthday. Then send in test sheets after you turn 18?

In Ontario you can take the courses at any age. On December 14th, 2010, the Firearms Safety Education of Ontario decreed that instructors are not permitted to conduct the CRFSC (handgun) test for youth under the age of 17.5 years. Youth can still take the CRFSC course but they cannot be tested in Ontario until six months before their 18th birthday.

My son did the RPAL course a few months before his 18th birthday. We mailed in the paperwork right away and he followed up with a phone call. It was funny because before he was 18 I had to talk for him, after he was 18 he had to talk. Well he called the first time and I had to take the call because he was 17 and they told me they would not mail it until he was 18. So remember now he is 18 and has no PAL for hunting season because his birthday is October 26 and the minor’s licence expired. We talk to a retired MNR guy who says just take him hunting, any officer that would give him trouble is an idiot, just keep his minor’s licence and explain the story. We went hunting, never saw anyone who would ID us so never had a problem. A couple of weeks go by and I give a call because he is getting antsy to go out on his own, you know he is 18. Now they won’t talk to me and I give him the phone and they tell him that it’s in the mail. It took just over three weeks to get it and I don’t know how he hasn’t bought anything yet but he has lots of suggestions on what I should buy. I guess I have too many firearms for him to use.
