Another Powder Question

Dual loads can work.

Believe it or not, these two cases, the 9mm and the 40 cal can not only use the same powder, but the same charge weight.
I use Aliant's bulk powder called PROMO. Its very much like RedDot. I use the same charge weight for both calibers. And they work. Of course I'm not talking about top end loads, but nice, controllable and accurate loads.
If you keep the 9mm below 1100 FPS and the 40 below 900 FPS you can achieve a dual load and the two rounds do not kick so hard.
PROMO is a bulk powder that comes in 8 pound containers and costs around C$94.00 per keg.

9mm cases are quite small and you need to pay attention to how much powder you can put in the case. Both, 9mm and .40 seem to like medium or medium-slow burning powders; also you do want to be consistent with powder load and spherical powder measures the best (e.g. Win 231).

I'd recommend taking a look at Hodgdon Universal Clays or Win 231 to start with as they are cheaper, measure well and can load heavy bullets without going into compressed loads. You don't need to put much powder in cases with those too thus additional savings.

Later, you may wanna look at something else as far as powder goes and even drop 9mm from your competition guns and so on....

I have been using SR 4756 in my 9 mm reloads with good success. I found in one of my reloading manuals that it was most accurate for 9 mm.. Sorry cant remember which one. Some of the guys i shoot with also use 4756. I just looked in my Hornady reloading book and you can also use it for SW .40 6.3 gr gives 180 gr bullet 900 fps. 5.4 gr gives a 200 gr bullet 800 fps. I have even used this for my .45 works good in my hands..
