HK's answer to the Minimi. This one has a 13.5" fluted barrel. Its ejection port opens downwards instead of to the right. Because of the ejection port position, the ammo box is hooked on the left side of the gun. This thing actually weights a bit more than the FN. It does "feel and look" more solid than the FN. The barrel trunnion appears to be a block of steel wielded to the stamped receiver.

Another feature is that the barrel of the MG4 can be changed without retracting the bolt to the rear because the bolt does not lock up to the barrel. (and probably the reason the trunnion is a steel block) So that will save half a step in the barrel changing drill.

The bipod of the MG4 can also be pulled backwards and pushed up to dig in. That is a feature requested by the Germany military.

nice toy but i dont think you will see it for sale in canada.
Doubtful being as it's an HK military firearm. HK's not going to make an MG in semi auto when German laws won't let them sell military hardware to civies. That said, even if one were to come in on the grey market, my guess at the cost is along the lines of...

I will own that gun before I leave this Earth and take it to the next dimension with me...................
I really like that feature of being able to swap barrels without locking the bolt to the rear...

Perhaps after WW3 we can have it though...

The coolest feature on it is the ability to lock the charging handle up and lock the bolt in position.
This can be done without the bolt fully forward or to the rear -- pretty neat option when the gun gets all gummed up with double feeds etc.

Side note - the KAC LMG and Stoner 86 LMG all could replace barrels without cocking the weapon -- this feature was actually a negative in the Crane Testing of the LMG in the Mk46 trial, and a negative of the Big army testing of the Stoner 86 in the XM249 SAW trial.

Is there a difference Between the KAC LMG and the Stoner 86 (I thought it was the Stoner 96, oops)? I thought the KAC LMG was/is the Stoner.

The bastard child of the MG3 and all the other HK firearms....

Seriously, it's just an updated (heavily updated) MG42/3 isn't it?

The MG4 has very little in common with the MG3, other than the fact that they're both belt-fed machine guns. The MG4 is gas operated with a rotating bolt, whereas the MG3 is short recoil operated with roller locking.

I think that is way to early to tell at this point.....Hey i would be happy to own a C9 never mind the KAC LMG or HKMG4....lol.

Either way you have to have some seriously deep pockets to be able to have any personal data or experience to test all 3 LMG to see the benefits or faults of any of these LMG type guns. I'm not even sure many goverments would bother to test which is better and then let any of the data be shown to public eyes. I wonder if the RCMP or DND have done any comparisions...

No one has bought the KAC Stoner gun in any serious quantities if I'm not mistaken, I think only Denmark and few PMC companies have them along with some SF units here and there...

Leibermuster, where did you hear/find that Denmark is using KAC LMG? Just wondering, because I did a quick wikipedia search (because wikipedia is NEVER wrong:rolleyes:) and it claims that they are using MG3s, M2s, Colt HBARs, and Minimis (in limited use). I personally think it would be cool if Denmark were using KAC LMGs.

I know people that serve all over the world in the PMC SF community Police etc etc and through even some internet sources(That I compare to personal sources for comparison)....Plus a few other manufacture sources other than KevinB;)

But yeah it is amazing what you can find out from a little service and the connection you make over the years, that being said it doesn't really matter and should not be a suprise what units buy from KAC or HK because they have been in the Apex of development for a very long time.
