Can't find too much on the net about this, was wondering if someone with a little rimfire knowledge could elaborate on this rifle a little more. I have in my hands a (looks brand spankin new)

"Springfield" Manufactured by J. Stevens Arms Company
Chicopee Falls.Mass.USA Cal.22S.L or L.R. Model 56

Anyone know when (roughly) this firearm was produced? No serial.

Fry, my gun buyers guide says it was made between 1935-1948.

Is there any stampings on the tang?

The savage collectors forum on 24hr campfire might be able to help more but it doesn't seem like Steven's had too much for actual date codes that I have found yet.

Hope this helps,
Noel

The only other markings on the rifle other than what I typed above, are a "7" wiht a circle around it and it's on the barrel on the left, can't see anything else.

magazine

Magazines are available from e-gunpartsdotcom and are $18.55 US. Yes they will ship to you here in Canada. Saw a model 56 a while back at a show, decent condition, fellow wanted $150 for it and it didn't sell that day. They are an economy model similar to style of a Winchester model 69 but without the quality of fit, finish, and machining etc. Hope the info helps.
