Hi!

This autumn I bought a remington 700 5r in 308. Since then I am looking to put a scope on it.
I have approximately $1500 to spend.

I narrow my choice on 3 scopes (ffp mil).
- nightforce shv f1 4x14-50
- leupold vx3i lrp 4,5x14 or 5,4x20
- Sightron s3 ffp 4,5x24-50

The leupold seem to have great features but there not too much reviews. The nf is the one that seem to have the best ratting ( cost vs quality).
Any input will be appreciated! I am new in the target shooting.

Sorry for my English! It’s not my first language!

I'll second what Harley said. With the current Bushnell sale, you should be able to grab an HDMR II. They're great scopes, super tough, track great and a feature set you have to pay much more to get in other scopes. I had the NF SHV F1 before and it's quite a nice scope but the features that I find make the HDMR II far superior are it's 10 mil turrets (vs 5 mil turrets on the NF), FAR superior reticle (Horus H59 on the HDMR II vs Mil-R on the NF) and increased magnification. I would consider the HDMR II more of a long range scope whereas I'd put the SHV on a long range hunting rig or a SPR or other gas gun.

I would give serious thought to the new Zeiss V4 for the same money only now FFP

Consider the Athlon family of scopes

Been testing them the last months and they offer solid tracking, features and optics for the price.

I have some reviews in my dealer forum. They are doing well Stateside so you can look at those reviews as well.

The Ares BTR is a fantastic entry point for a full featured FFP scope and under your budget.

The Cronus BTR is my current fave with some superb optics and mechanicals. More then your budget but hits way above its price point.

This summer, there will be the Ares ETR which has some very exciting specs vs price.

A few more options to consider.

Had the Sightron SIII, loved it. For the price and the quality of glass, you cannot beat it. If you have a bit of patience you can find one for around $1000 here on EE. With Bushnell 30% rebate happening now you should be looking at those (not much to choose from now). Don't let the Bushnell name fool you, they make top notch gear that is used all over the world now. I've never used one but I have read a lot of good stuff on the Athlons as well. Jerry at Mystic Precision knows his stuff.

I just went through the same scope search (same budget and criteria for a similar rifle, also looking for the best bang for my buck) and read all the reviews I could get my hands on. I ended up ordering the Ares BTR that Jerry mentioned above. It's available in 2.5-15x or 4.5-27x and should be on your radar! I don't have mine in hand yet, but I should be able to add a bit of a review around the end of the month.

Nice clear glass, good tracking, got mine second hand and continue to be happy with it with every use!

Fantastic scopes but they lack some of the features some FFP users consider critical. The Zero stop issue may get resolved this summer... still waiting on details. They now have a "two turn" marked elevation turret and L/R windage knob option... hopefully, all this just gets worked into regular production (Why not yet??? who knows)

Reticle options are limited but they are putting in a nice Xmas tree option in their new SV scope... will there be SIII options by the end of the year????

Eventually, they are going to catch up with offerings but they are truly taking their time. And Why I am offering Athlon products to complement the many excellent SFP options from Sightron.

Just spent some time with the Delta 4.5-30... this is an AWESOME scope and for the money, I doubt there is anything optically close in the FFP world. All the features you want. Built in the same factory with the same chassis as the Athlon Cronus BTR (they are twins).. less money but with a 10yr manf defect warranty only.

If the limited time frame of the warranty doesn't bother you, this is a smoking good deal. Japanese manf offered through a Polish Brand.

If you want lifetime, no brainer warranty, then the Athlon Cronus BTR is for you. Yep, it costs more then the Delta but.....

Lot of infos!
I am not into a hurry. I will contact Sightron about the zero stop for the s3.
I'll take a look for the delta too.

Jerry any info on the pricing of the new sv FPP yet?
