Hi Guys

I wanted to make a softer looking SKS for hunting and I choose a green stain for this one.

As usual, I removed all unnecessary metal. Bayonet, bayonet swivel and cut the mag flush.

Added a 1" recoil pad to lengthen the LOP.

Cut the receiver to allow RH case ejection and to clear a low mounted scope.

Played with a dozen scope mounts and didn't like any of them, so I modified one to my needs. The scope should be mounted to have only about an inch protruding past the end of the receiver cover for proper eye distance on shouldering the gun.

I am of the opinion that any scope base should be mechanically fastened to the receiver and not the bolt cover.

All of the work done on this and all my SKS mods is done with simple hand tools and not a machine shop so that anyone can copy for themselves.

What would you charge for one of those cut down mag's?

They are not an add on but simply cutting down the existing mag assembly. I will post pics shortly, but with Photobucket it takes time.

Okay after an hour of fighting with Photobucket got a few in.

Once you get the rough cuts made as shown, it's then a matter of grinding, sanding and fine fitting. You have to leave a tab for the mag catch when you cut the cover.

For the actual mag, you have to leave the catch as shown.

Wow , nice work !!

You have the can do attitude , Does not matter how many rejects and failed ideas you try , what is important that you get a one right , nothing ventured , nothing gained .

Q; How is the accuracy with the scope ?
